Clicky Poll: Violet - # of syllables

How many syllables are in the name Violet when you say it?

This site lists the pronunciation as VY-let, while this site lists it similar to VIY-eh-lit. This site lists both as possibilities.

By the way, this name is not on my list. I don't care for it either way. I'm just curious. :)

    Can I say 2.5 ? Lol.

    I don't say Vy-let , but I don't say Vy-uh-let / Vy-eh-let either.

....more Vy-uh-let (with very very very little notice to the 'uh'). Kind of a half syllable.

I noticed this is what was happening when I tried saying it too! I think it sounds more like 2 syllables when I say it (especially if saying it fast), but even when I try to pronounce the 3 distinct syllables, it kind of mushes together and sounds like 2 (or 2.5 - ha). I was just curious if I was the only one with issues. ;-)

  • DD is Violet.  We pronounce it Vi-uh-let.  I consider it 3 syllables, although I can see that people might call her Vi-let.  So far, people seem to be sayingii Vi-uh-let.

I have the same problem with DD's name. Some pronounce it in 3 syllables, A-ver-y and some in 2, Ave-ry. I kinda pronounce it in the middle.

I would pronounce Violet, VI-uh-Let, with the middle syllable being very short and quiet.
