Would you travel to Mexico right now?

We have a trip planned with kids and my parents to Mexico (Cancun/Playa Del Carmen area) for November and DH is freaking out about us going because of all the drug wars going on. I told him all of that is no where near where we'll be and he still is not sure. I think we'll be fine. But, just out of curiousity, would you go?

Nope! I am sure you will be fine, but I would be so nervous I wouldn't have fun.

of course.  It's way more dangerous to drive on the freeway to get to the airport.

We went back in 2005 and stayed at the Moon Palace.  It's secluded from the main strip and while there was lots to do at our resort, and we took a day trip to Telum and other places, we did want to venture out on our own one day.  So, we rented a car.  OMG!  Driving in Mexico very different.  We got lost and ended up in a bad part of downtown, and other than getting cut off 4 dozen times we were okay. 

I'd go, but I wouldn't venture from the resort or strip, depending on where you're staying.  But, I'm a fraidy cat like that.  Do you have trip insurance in case you do decide not to go?

We were there in 2008 & I don't plan to go back.  Mind you, I'm not a big traveler anyway so it's not an issue for me.  There are plenty of places I can think of in the US I'd rather go than traveling anywhere abroad.

Definitely - I have been to Playa many times and would/will continue to go back. If your DH is concerned, just make an effort to stay in the resort, although I would be perfectly comfortable doing day trips, especially if through the resort.

I would probably not go, but only bc I cannot stand places where I am 'trapped' on the resort. What's the point? I'd rather go to the NJ shore.

Ditto. I can't stand resorts and if it's not wise to leave the resort areas then eh, what's the point?

No. And I really want to go to Mexico. I just would be too nervous to enjoy myself. I believe there was an incident at a resort a while ago and even so just because it hasn't happened at a resort doesn't mean I am willing to take a chance. I don't think the drug lords care about tourism and who knows what they would do..

yep. We took DD to Mexico last year and it was all over the news. We made sure she stayed on the resort with my inlaws if we left it. We want to go again next year.

I probably would not, although I think a lot of the violence is isolated to Ciudad Juarez and TJ.
