Lowdown on DHEA

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but would anyone mind letting me know the deets on DHEA? Is it recommended without a doctor consult? What is it for primarily? Does anyone take it on this board?

Thanks!

Re: Lowdown on DHEA

  • I know my prenatal vitamin has it built in. When I told my doc I was TTC, she wrote me up a prescription for the vitamins.

Other than that, I'm afraid I'm not much help.

  • Hi from the IF board. I hope it's OK for me to post here.

DHA is an omega-3 fatty acid that is often in PNVs, or taken in addition to PNVs. It's important to find supplements that don't contain mercury, non-fish sources. HERE is an article on DHA (a fast google search).

DHEA is thought to help women with DOR. HERE is a study on the topic on AMA women undergoing IVF treatment.

    Good luck!

ETA : Both are available OTC in the vitamin/supplements section. I'd check with your Dr on everything you're taking. My RE is against supplements when doing treatments/taking Rx.

But DHEA is totally different. My doc prescribed 75mg a day and my egg quality did improve for IVF 2!
