Formula Measurement - help

LO drinks anywhere from 3-4 oz at a feeding - and the doc said to always make more than she eats so I think I should start making 4.5 oz.

If 4 oz = 2 scoops and 5 = 2.5 scoops how do I make 4.5 oz?

HELP!

DS drinks 3.5 oz, so I do one scoop plus 3/4 of a scoop. it's hard to be exact, but i get as close as possible.

  • You make a big batch in a pitcher and then pour it out as needed.  Easier than trying to figure out those conversions and second guessing yourself.

  • I just estimate...I'd do a big, heaping 2-scooper (but not quite 2.5 scoops) for the 4.5 oz.

This.....so much easier than doing the math at 2 AM

  • If I make a pitcher - how long is it good for in the fridge?  And how do I make sure she's not drinking super cold milk?

Right now I use room temperature filtered water.

    Advise?

And what pitcher do you use to measure?

  • This has nothing to do with the measuring, but for the ladies that make the pitchers - how do you warm the bottles up, especially during the night? I have tried to run the bottle under warm water, but that takes forever! Any other suggestions? I normally just make a bottle with room temperature water everytime she eats, but I always wanted to pre-make the formula in the pitcher.
  • If you make a pitcher it's good for 24 hours in the fridge after making it.

We use a bottle warmer to warm the bottles up...we were running it under hot water but it took too long. This takes about 2-3 minutes.

  • What pitcher do you use to help with your measurements? Dr. Browns?

I have a large plastic cup with water in it that I put in the microwave for about 30 seconds, then put the bottle in to warm up. I do it on my way to LO's room, so by the time I get one of them from the crib, etc. the bottle is usually warm enough. I make all their nighttime bottles before I go to bed, and so far this system is working well for us.

  • I use formula to supplement my pumped bm.  I use the Dr. Brown's pitcher to mix it and keep it in the fridge for up to 24 hrs.  I make it each evening and toss what I don't use the next evening.  I like the pitcher because it kinda stirs the formula....the shaking made bubbles which gave DD bad gas.  The stirring has helped cut down on the gas.

I bought a cheap bottle warmer.  It's quick and easy.

  • With DD i had a coffee mug filled it with water and would put it in the microwave for 45 seconds. I would put the bottle in the mug and go changer her diaper and by the time I got back it was warm. There are bottle warmers too that warm in 8-10 seconds..
