help! please

Bentlie is begging for an Ariel Bday party... I have decided as the party favor I am going to give little goldfish w/a bowl... https://4.bp.blogspot.com/_wfZLoTDd210/SnnAQI-sfKI/AAAAAAAACg0/PwgS1XroXTM/s1600-h/IMG_0021.JPG

Where would I be able to find little bowls for cheap??

Re: help! please

  • Michael's, Walmart, or we have a place called Old Time Pottery here that is way cheaper than Walmart.
  • I am not trying to be snarky, but I would be pissed to get that as a favor. We don't need anything else for me to take care of and keeping that away from my kids would be a PITA. DD tipped over my nephews fish last week at their house. I would not be happy to come home from a party with one.

This.  I would not be happy with a pet as a favor.  But an Aerial party would be lots of fun!  Maybe instead you could do sea shells?

  • Sorry, but I have to agree with a couple others....I'd be really irritated with a favor like that.
  • I'd really rethink this idea if I were you. Besides other issues, the short lifespan leads to big heartbreaks.

  • I agree with the others.  I'd politely decline that favor at the party.

Do this instead I made them for DD Nemo birthday last year & they were a huge hit.  Kind of a pain in the butt to make I would just buy them.

The above link was just the first one I came upon in ETSY just put in Fish in bag soap & it will pull up a bunch.

  • Here is a copy of one I made If you want the directions I can probably find them for you too.image

    Thank you!!! GREAT IDEA!

  • I would be ok with it as a favor, but only because we have a giant fish tank and our fish eat gold fish as party favors.  Really, they do.

Not such a great gift.  Why not a coloring book, outdoor ball, or something else that "goes away". Even a bucket with a shovel would be more appreciated by almost everyone.

  • how about putting goldfish crackers  in a small bowl instead of live fish

  • We recently learned (ds won a goldfish playing a carnival game) that goldfish are not ment to be kept in such small bowls.  I don't know the specifics (the petsmart employee schooled us).  But something about how they pollute themselves in such a small bowl and die.

We learned this after trying to replace nemo (who croaked within days of getting him) with another nemo without ds noticing.  She recommended a beta fish instead.   We had to tell ds that nemo was sick and his friend was going to stay with us instead.  Ha!

So, even the people that wanted them home from the party- if they didn't transfer them to a decent sized tank would all have dead goldfish in about a week.  Kinda sad  :(

When I first read it, my thought was the crackers.

IMO that is still just as bad, if DD saw others leaving with them she would want one too and it could lead to a major melt down. Then as the parent I would be put in the bad position of telling her no.

Ditto.  Goldfish are not meant to be housed in small bowls without appropriate filtration.  They produce a large amount of ammonia and will die in a small unfiltered bowl.  (The rule of thumb is one gallon per inch of fish, with an aggressive ammonia balancing filter-and they grow fast, so they need a several gallon tank within a short time.)

Bottom line: you would commit your guests to making a $30-50 minimum investment in their "favor" if they were to properly house their new pet.

We got a goldfish as a favor at an Elmo party and I am pretty sure my friend got the little glass bowls at Hobby Lobby. She put blue gravel in the bottom and tied an orange ribbon around the top of the bowl and gave us baggies of food. It was a pretty big hit with the kids and while I thought it was going to be a huge PITA, it has been fine. I still wouldn't ever give out a fish as a favor but receiving one wasn't the worst thing in the world.

The lady at Petco told us 2 gallons of water per inch with goldfish. 1 gallon per inch with other fish. Betas would be more appropriate for a small bowl.

This, I'm sorry.  My DD's were crushed when their goldfish died.

  • And a glass bowl for little kids? Stupidest favor idea EVER for all the reasons everyone has stated and more.
  • I agree with pretty much everyone else... please do not do this. I would be LIVID about receiving a live animal as a party favor. The goldfish will die just like the others are telling you b/c it is not the proper living conditions for them. And, oh yeah....your plan for "only giving them to the people that want them" could not be more poorly thought out. My DD (and every other kid I know) would throw a screaming Jesus fit when I told her there was no way in HELL we were leaving with a fish. Bottom line...live animals should not be given as party favors. They should be kept as pets by families who make a decision to care for them properly. Please rethink this plan.
