old sports bra = hands free?

has anyone really taken an old sports bra and turned it into a hands free pumping bra?  I have a pisa and return to work tomorrow...hands free would make double pumping so much quicker and easier for me...but I dont have a hands free bra...

if anyone has done this, could you share how exactly and does it really keep the shields in place?

thanks

Re: old sports bra = hands free?

  • I have done this and it works great -- been using the same one since January!  I literally cut two slits in the sports bra using regular scissors.  I just put the slits where I estimated the shields would go.  I would say I cut about one inch slits.  I wear the sports bra over my nursing bra every day -- not exactly ideal but it is easier then putting the sports bra on each time I need to pump (I pump 3x a day).  Then I just put the shields on under the sports bra with the end sticking out of the slits and hook up!

    good luck!

  • I have never tried the "old sports bra" trick, but I do the pony-tail trick.  I actually just use one rubberband and hook it around the shield neck and to my nursing bra hook and it works great.  I pump 2x per day at work and have been using the same rubberbands for at least 3 weeks.  Best of Luck!

P.S. The only reason I haven't tried the sports bra trick is because I don't own a new one, let alone and old one  Stick out tongue

  • I put the bra on and with a marker marked where each nipple is.  Then I cut the holes.  I put the flanges on and pull them through the holes then attach the bottles.  Works well for me!

  • I tried and it was too much of a pain to get on over the nursing bra I'm wearing to work (it doesn't have a clasp, it's pull over). I also tried the rubber band trick and it wasn't secure enough, lost milk. I ended up buying a Simple Expressions hands free bra from Amazon ($28) and kicking myself for not buying it sooner.
  • I have several sports bras that I have cut slits into in order to make my own hands free bra. I put the bra on, mark with a marker where my nipples are, take the bra off, then cut the slits into the bra.

I EP, so I pump all the time, and I wouldn't have made it 6 months so far without my cheap-o hands free bras.

  • That's exact what I did! Put bra on.. Marked where nips were... Took off and cut little slits.. I just wear the sports bras to work... And use my breast pads to plug the holes when not pumping. I wear scrubs to work so it's not as obvious I'm wearing a sports bras all the time.
