I've heard both...

Re: NN for Caroline: Clicky Poll

  • I've never heard either of those for Caroline.  I hear Carrie more often than not.
  • I voted Callie, but I don't think Caroline needs a nickname. Caroline is beautiful on its own.

  • I actually don't think either one make much sense for Caroline. The only nn's I've ever heard with it are Carrie or Caro.

  • I think Carrie would work more than anything, but as others have said, Caroline doesn't need a nickname. It's beautiful on its own and not too stuffy or formal.

Neither nn works for Caroline IMO.

I don't like either. Caroline was a front-runner for us with Kate but we decided that we didn't like any nickname with it and it would be hard to get people to call her Caroline.
"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies. God damn it, you've got to be kind." - Kurt Vonnegut
  • Never heard Callie for Caroline.

I am a Caroline.  As a small child, I was "Carly".  I always hated Carrie, and around age 5 I announced that I hated Carly too.

The past 20 years have been all Caroline (which, for the record, I love).

  • neither. i don't like any nickname for it and all the carolines i've ever known always went by just caroline. occasionally they would be called caro but they never went by that. when i was considering the name, i planned on only calling her by her entire name.

  • Uh.... Caroline? How about Caroline! I wouldn't use a nickname for something that stands alone, but then I'm not a NN person.

  • I really like this name, but my husband doesn't so it's out. I would have used Lina (lee-nah) as a nickname.
