What do you think of this girl name??

I really like the name Desmond for a boy and nn Des or Desi. So then I thought if it's a girl maybe Desiree? I like a lot of other girl names but they are super common. I've never known anyone named Desiree....what do you think?

I teach in an inner-city high school. Every year I have two to three girls named Desiree. I can say after teaching there for 7 years I have yet to meet one that is not awful. It could be where I teach but I seriously have a negative vibe from this name. So IMHO please DO NOT name your child this.

I've only ever met 2 Desiree's. I think it's pretty and I love the nn Desi.

I like Desmond quite a bit. And despite its LOST appeal, it might be one of the last names to get picked up from the series' characters/actors (Jack, Sawyer, Kate, Evangeline, Linus).

Desiree is okay, but not my style. I knew a few in my area...most with cre8ive spellings.

Word. Well, middle school for me.

However, that doesn't mean that YOUR Desiree, OP, wouldn't be wonderful. If you love the name, go ahead and use it. It's nms, but there are far worse names out there.

Thanks for all of your opinions!! I know how it is to know someone who totally ruins a name for you. Hopefully I'm having a boy b/c I am having a really hard time finding a girl name that I like!

The only Desiree I know is a skank... so I don't like it. But a pro is it's not too common!

I have a niece named desmond. We call her desi or des and she is the sweetest thing. Weirdly nobody thinks twice about it, though, ocassionally, I am reminded of Desmond Tutu. Great name. dg

The only Desiree I've ever known was a girl I went to high school with. I don't particularly like the name, but it isn't very common from my experience.

Something to think about though... are you planning on having more children? If you love Desmond for a boy, you may want to save it for later in case you have a boy down the road. If you named a daughter Desiree, you would be shutting the door on Desmond.
