TTC after 35

37, TTC and hoping for the best.

Tomorrow, I'll be scheduling our first appointment to see a fertility specialist for help.  Have been TTC since January but still no luck.  What should I expect on this first visit?

Mine did a family history and then an ultrasound. We talked about testing options and since my insurance covered it, I opted for the entire battery of fertility tests just to get a clear picture of what's going on. Made lots of follow up appointments that day. I am have pretty much seen him once a week since.

Mine did family history and an internal.  Thankfully, the girls on another board warned me that it was possible because I wasn't expecting it.  She discussed the tests that they would run and possible treatment options if things came back ok.  DH had already had 2 SA's done before our appt - one from his GP (b/c I told him to ask for one when he had an appt) and then a follow-up one from my OB (b/c he had an elevated white blood cell count the 1st time).

For my tests I had to call on CD 1 to schedule them because some have to be done on certain days of your cycle.  Other tests have a range of days that they can be done on, but before you ovulate again.

Good luck.  Oh and MH went with me for the appt b/c they wanted his history too.  Some girls have said they had their DH's SA set up that day (for a couple of days later) so it was good for him to be there to schduel it.

For my initial meeting with the RE we reviewed my family history, my age, DH's age.  He also set up all of the blood work, scheduled the HSG, and DH SA.  Good luck!

Mine did the same, set up the tests for HSG, CD3, and all of the bloodwork needed before doing anything!

We talked alot and I guess I was hoping that after a year of TTC there would be some easy solution we could start tomorrow not knowing that after all of this blood work and talk and transfer of info from my OB then I would start BC for a month and have a final plan made.  We started with the FE in the beginning of June and we are still working on getting all of the pieces together...in other words, it has been two more cycles on our own and two more times of disappointment as AF arrives.  Just know, it isn't as fast as I hoped but still great to be able to get on a plan.  We go back on Friday.  Hopefully the official plan time!

First of all, hello and welcome!!

In my first appt with my RE, she did a brief family history, reviewed previous health info (surgeries, etc) and scheduled all the neccessary testing......bloodwork, hsg, SA for the DH, etc..  She also gave us an overview of what she does/can do and what our next step would probably be ( IUI ), which she explained in full, with diagrams and an actual uterus replica!  She then took time to answer any questions that we had.

They never start any treatment until a full cycle of testing to see how your body works.  I would come prepared with a list of questions.  Believe me, you'll have a ton, but don't feel bad if you can't retain it all, it's A LOT of info to take in.

    Good luck!

Thank you everyone, what a warm welcome :)

I truly appreciate your comments and support.  Being a newbie to this, first thing I noticed was that I better learn what all these acronymns mean, lol. I'm sure as my TTC journey unravels, I will soon start learning what the letters stand for ;)

Good luck to everyone as well!!
