Baby Names

WDYT?

we have a few names picked out for a girl...favorites are

addyson rae

ava raechelle

ellyson elizabeth

raechel janae

emmalee jade

for boys we're having a little more trouble.  definitely want the middle name to be brian though (DH's middle name).  ones we like are

cole brian

luke brian

hayden brian

WDYT?  any other suggestions??

ETA: addyson should have been addison
raechelle and raechel were spelled that way because my middle name is rae and we wanted to incorporate that somehow but are open to changing that if it's too weird.
ellison is actually a boys name but i know a family who named DD that (and spelled it with a 'y') and thought it was cute.
emmalee could be emily too...spellings aren't super set in stone for us at this point.

Re: WDYT?

  • Oh no. This isn't going to be pretty.

  • Please do your kid a favor and spell the names correctly if you are going to use Addison and Ellison.

I like your boy names, but not your girls.

    And Rachel and Emily.

I like Luke or Lucas but I learned it is the #1 name in our prison system ;)

I like Ava for a girl

  • *Flexes fingers* Okay, I'll take a stab at it.

First of all, let's start with the boy names, because I can say nice things. I like Cole and Luke, they are simple good names. Hayden is not my style, and I think it sounds funny with Brian.

For girls.... nothing is really spelled right here. AT ALL. Addyson should be Addison, Raechelle is either Rochelle or Rachelle, Ellyson... I'm pretty sure that's made up, but I could see Ellison for a boy maybe? I don't like the way Raechel looks at ALL (I've seen Racheal before, is this what you meant?) Annnnnnd- I think that's all. Have a nice night! Smile

  • I'm always confused on these posts. Why is it only the girl names that have crazy, youneek spellings and the boy names are relatively normal?! What is it about girl names that scream "CHANGE MY SPELLING!"?!

ETA: Oh, and my favorites would be Ava, Emily and Luke Brian.

    I heart your BIL!

  • Ava or Emily. The rest of your spellings are not right.

For boys, my choice would be Luke. Cole is NMS, but an okay name. I don't like Hayden at all.

  • Oookay... well, I like your boy names a lot. I like Cole, Hayden is okay, and I prefer Lucas to Luke, but Luke is just fine. Good choices there. I suggest Elliot, Dalton, and Gavin... those seem to fit into your style.

Your girl names could be so good if you spelled them correctly. I'm sorry, but most of those spellings will make me assume the parent is 16, illiterate, or uneducated. Addyson should be Addison, Ellyson should be Ellison, Raechel should be Rachel, and Emmalee should be Emily.

In my opinion, Addison doesn't age well and Ellison is not feminine at all. Ava, Rachel, and Emily are all beautiful choices. I think that if you are set on choosing different spellings, Ava Raechel is your best option. Most of the time, middle names are the best places to be creative, so if you really feel the urge to be different, pick a more traditionally spelled first name and go with 'unique' for the mn. Good luck.

  • so i suppose i should have been prepared for total and complete (if not brutal) honesty...but seriously, if you ignore all of the "incorrect" spellings are they really that bad?

and what was with the "she only has 4 posts" comment?  everyone has to start somewhere....

  • Yes, we are brutally honest. And no one said the names were bad, just the spellings. I like Addison and Emily, and I mentioned above that I like Cole and Luke.

We just have SERIOUS issues with wierd, unnecessary spellings. Don't worry, you're not the only one who's gotten these types of comments.

Lots of people on these boards have AEs (alternate egos) or are just trolls, who come onto the boards and post things they know will be inflammatory or cause drama. Since you only have a few posts and posted exactly the sort of names we love to make fun of, we kind of assume you might be a troll.

If you're not, I'm sorry, but you have appalling taste in girls' names. Spelling is important. It might be trendy and cute and terribly popular right now to spell things with a sense of individuality, but the perception you create is one of ignorance and stupidity. I naturally assume, and I'm far from alone in this, that the parents of little girls with "youneek" names are uneducated, simpleminded, illiterate, or all three. The stigma of these names actually follows children into adulthood--unconsciously, we choose to employ, date, and "like" individuals with familiar, correctly-spelled names. There are entire books written on the phenomena involved.

So, in short, you've come onto a web community mostly populated by the well-educated. We don't like text speak. We don't like poor use of grammar. We don't like misspelled baby names. And we don't like trolls. Everyone does have to start somewhere, so if you're just a newbie and happened to really like these names, consider yourself lucky the responses weren't much, much worse--they so easily could have been.

well i can say i'm definitely not an uneducated, illiterate, simple minded troll but thanks for taking the time to explain all of this to me.  i seriously am just a newbie having some troubles coming up with names i actually like for my LO.  i didn't realize "youneek" spellings were such a hot topic so i'll definitely be more careful when considering names or making posts or comments.  again, thanks for being honest.

  • Well, I'll go with Ava since it is the only one spelled correctly. It wins be default!

Luke I like...the others not so much

And thanks for coming back to respond...that shows guts. Strangebird hit it on the head with a lot of how the board is...it's not a single mind or anything, just a way we seem to gravitate. We do have moms or friends or random people come on here and tell us their own name woes, and I take it to heart. You don't get control over how you were named, but you get to give someone their start in life and naming them is a hefty responsibility; we're just trying to help the best we can. And yeah, if we're feeling particularly snarky, that might happen too. But I can tell you that I sometimes throw in a picture to make it funny...

  • From your list I like Ava Raechelle (spelled this way to incorporate your name) and Luke Brian.

  • I actually enjoy YouNeek spellings and I am also not 16 or uneducated. I do have four different baby daddys though. Just Kidding! I think its funny to read peoples respones to names other then "Sophie" "Susan" or " Elizabeth". I find it amusing, but if you want an honest opinion this is defintally the place to put it.

The reason I like YouNeek names is because growing up there were always 3-5 "Angela's" in my classes and it was annoying when we made any projects that had our names on them, (like art projects that hung on the wall) we always had to put our last name on it which I didnt like. There was an "Angela" in my class spelled "Anjila" and I loved it, she never had issues. So I love that names get spelled youneekly and stick out. Its not like its safe these days to buy kids things with their names on it (like backpacks, bikes, cups etc) unless you want them abducted so what does it really matter if you have an Ellyson vs Ellison?? I Actually like Ellyson and can call her Elly.

So with that being said, I say go with your youneek spellings! Here we go, I know im in for it, the wolves will now tear me to shreds and tell me Im useless and not worthy of these boards. Go for it.... I love honesty and I can take it.

  • Addison is o.k.

    I like Ava.

    Ellyson?  No. Ellison.  Maybe.

Raechel. NO!!!!!  It can still be "incorporating" your MN if you spell is Rachel.  Really- it can!  Raechel just looks horrible.

    Emmalee.  No.  Emily. Yes.

I like Cole and Luke.  Hayden - not bad, but too trendy for my taste.
