What do you think of....

Emmalin or Emmalyn

I am a fan of the show Army Wives and the daughter on there has that name. Every time there is a new episode I like it more. Just wondering if people think it is strange or pretty =)

Also vote on my names if you have a second the link is in my siggy. Thanks so much!!

Re: What do you think of....

  • It's okay...not horrible, but I like Emily a lot more.
  • never heard it don't watch army wives and i love it! with grace as a middle name love love love it...

  • I really don't like it--sounds like two names combined.  Emma Lynn is better IMO.
  • Emmalyn is my choice of the two; I don't think it's hideous, but it does sound made up and childlike. What about Emmeline (pronounced just like it looks)? It's a more traditional name, but it presents are more educated, mature face to the world.
  • I went to HS with an Emmaline (emma-leen) and I really like that.

  • I don't care for it being smooshed into one name. I like the idea of Emma Lynn as a first name.

I don't like it at all ? either spelling. What about Emma Lynn?

    From your list I like:

    Girls: LOVE Olivia, Natalia, Sophia....

Alexia is a learning disability....just so you know. I don't like Alexis / Lexie / Alexa at all.

Boys: LOVE Sawyer (ONLY ONLY ONLY for a boy), Ethan (if its twins? odd statement..)

I know that about Alexia I keep telling my DH that, but he wants it voted on lol. I prefer Alexa!

This is also a character in Anne of Green Gables - Emmeline.  I've always loved this name!  (Although, in my head, I've always pronounced it - "Emma-line" like Caroline.)

  • I've basically been mispronouncing it all of these years!  Good to know! The girl's name Emmeline e-mmeli-neemm(e)-line is pronounced EM-a-leen. It is of Old French and Old Germanorigin. Variant of Emma, and also related to Emily when revived in the19th centurySuffragette EmmelinePankhurst.
  • They are ok but I prefer emma or emily.

A lot of people still say Emmeline like Caroline. I think any pronunciation is okay (Emma-leen, Emma-line, Emma-lynn).I do prefer Emma or Emilie to Emmalyn, but if you really want to use Emmalyn then I would spell it Emmeline. As for your other names, I like Olivia, Sophia, Alexa, Sawyer (for a boy only), Aidan, and Ethan.

I'm happy that you mention this because, as I was thinking about it further, I'm pretty sure that in the Anne of Avonlea movie they do pronounce it "Emma-line," like Caroline!

  • I like Emily, although its popularity would scare me off. Emmeline is the only variation of Emily that I don't mind- Emmalyn and Emmalin look very strange and trashy to me. (I don't really like Emmeline, but it looks a lot classier and will grow well.) Or like PP suggested, use Emma Lynn.

I like Olivia, Sophia, Natalia, Annelise, Alexa, Alyssa, Sawyer (but ONLY for a boy! I hate that this name is used for girls), and all of your boy names except for Aiden. Olivia and Sophia (and Abigail and Ella, which I'm so over) are FAR too popular for me to want to use, but that's your choice. Aiden is as well, and I prefer the traditional Aidan spelling.

Please don't use Jamison for a girl- the 'son' ending traditionally indicated 'son of', ie: male.  IMO, it's too masculine. (Names like Allison and Madison used to be used for boys only.)

Jaylin looks made up to me, and Nikelle is a little odd, IMO.

    Hope that helps. Good luck!

  • Not a fan. I like Emma and I like Emily, but Emmalin/Emmalyn doesn't seem right to me.
