Success after IF

Insurance question - contractual allowances

I'm just organizing my medical bills from my last 2 IVF cycles, I paid in full for my cycles but I have a bunch of random bills from Cornell.  All of these were things that weren't IVf procedures but were things that my insurance covered (bloodwork/US's/endometrial biopsy.etc).

I have all these insurance papers stating the claims were paid, all these bills are for the "overages", which I'm getting is what Cornell wants to get paid vs what insurance actually pays them.  I did some googling and it seems this is actually illegal in some states.

I'll call insurance tomorrow, but my question is if you've dealt with this issue is how did you handle it and what was the outcome?  Did you end up having to pay these overages?

TIA

  • I don't have any answer to your insurance question, but I am shocked and so happy for you that you're expecting triplets!  That is wonderful news.  I'll keep you and your little ones in my prayers!

  • I do know in our state, which is Illinois, our insurance company will pay what they pay, but then can tell the Dr. that the rest is "unbillable" or they can determine that a certain charge is unbillble.
