If you switched from Lovenox to Heparin, pls come in

Hi ladies,

I posted the other day about making the switch from Lovenox to Heparin since we are getting closer to delivery.  I've now been on Heparin 20,000 units a day for a week (two 10,000unit shots - 12 hrs apart).  Today I had a major nosebleed which has never happened to me before.  I barely even blew my nose, and next thing I knew, blood was running down my face.  Did anyone else have more bleeding when you made the switch?  I was on 60mg lovenox/day prior to switching and didn't experience any bleeding episodes.

My peri did a CBC w/ platelets & a PTT test yesterday, but I haven't gotten the results yet.  I'm curious to see how it turns out and if they'll lower my dose.

  • in my nursing stuff, I've known Hep to be more "bloody" than lovenox, but I've had limited exposure to it.

ps -  you saw my post yesterday that there's a generic lovenox now, right?

  • Nosebleeds are really common in pregnancy even if you're NOT on a blood thinner - I had several if I recall.  And they always stopped, and I never bled to death (yay!)  As long as it stopped in a reasonable amount of time - and it wasn't gallons o' blood - you're fine.  Again - normal to have nosebleeds especially in late preg - and yeah, the hep's gonna make it slightly more of a gusher but as long as it's only slightly more - you're totally fine.
    Wheee!
