coffee ice cream?

Stupid question...  We are making icecream.  I really want to make coffee icecream, but I'm not sure if DS can have it...  It calls for 2 Tb of instant coffee for a batch that makes 10 cups of icecream.  According to the instant coffee directions, 1 teaspoon makes one 6oz cup of coffee.  So in a way, each cup of icecream will be like a 1/2 cup of coffee.  Probably not good for a 3 1/2 yr old, right?   Bummer.

  • I know - I wish I had some decaf instant, but all I have is regular.  Oh well, guess we'll make oreo.

  • I would just use your best judgement based on your child. Oreo will have A LOT more sugar than coffee. But coffee will have more caffeine. However, it's a treat not a meal staple, so either one should be fine. Just do what ever you're more comfortable with.
  • I would totally make it and let my kids eat it. Not a big deal at all, IMO.

After all this concern, I ended up making Coffee Oreo Ice Cream.   YUM!! My biggest concern with giving DS a little coffee was just that he eats it a few hours to bedtime - which is sometimes a challenge in and of itself.     Guess we'll cross that bridge soon :)
