Sorry to be a PW today. My coworker's funeral was this morning (I'm using the Internet to distract me), so this was on my mind.
Her name was Bridgette, but when the email went out about her to our staff, the boss spelled it, Bridget. The person in charge of gathering donations referred to that email and had the beautiful photo album engraved with the wrong name. Thank goodness she showed it to me before she wrapped it up. She had to regather donations and get to the store to get it engraved and to the family before the services.

Re: Spelling story (or cautionary tale?)
Wow, your boss is a jackass for not double-checking.
Same thing happened recently at my company, a woman died in a plane crash and her regional manager sent out the "It's my sad duty to inform you..." email and he spelled her name THREE different ways in the email. (one was obviously a typo, but still terrible). Awful.
Oh dear, that could have been so awful. Thank goodness the mistake was caught in time.
Definitely a cautionary tale. I know I always double and triple check spellings when they're unusual, or I even suspect they might be. And, generally, I'm not dealing with personalizing for the deceased, when one should be even more cautious.
People are so clueless these days. That was AWFUL of your boss to not take the time to make sure your deceased coworker's name was spelled correctly.
My name is constantly misspelled by my coworkers. It's odd, since you email people by putting in part of their first/last name and it pops up! It is spelled correctly right in front of them and they're still clueless.
