I have a feeling about this name...it's nick name-like without being a nick name for anything specifically, it received two boosts within the last 100 years - first, Gone With the Wind (Bonnie was the nick name Rhett gave his little girl) and the second when the 1967 movie, Bonnie and Clyde came out. I just watched Toy Story 3, and the little girl in it is named Bonnie.
What do you think?
Re: Bonnie
It also reminds me of Bonnie Blue from Gone With the Wind.
For some reason, I picture a Bonnie as a meek person. To me it doesn't sound like it would belong to someone with a strong or vivacious personality.
I have a friend named this. I think it's a great name.
BTW...I've never made it through Gone with the Wind, so I'd never think of that.
I know sooooo many women named Bonnie (age anywhere between 30-60) where I am from in Virginia.
Just for fun, I just found out it was #47 on the SSA list in the state of Virginia in 1960, but #71 nationwide. I wonder what it is about Virginia and the name Bonnie. Hm.
Anyway, I can't really see it making a huge comeback, but who knows. It is along the same lines as Donna, Brenda, Tammy, Sharon, etc. to me.

My mom used to sing that to me all the time! Then she started adding weird stuff instead of Bonnie - body, doggie etc.

This. I know two Bonnies in their mid-20's and the name suits them, but I wouldn't personally use it.
I was sad to finally see this thread show up, eventhough I knew it was coming after seeing Toy Story 3.
I'm hoping not too many people will jump on the Disney movie bandwagon with this name. I've had Bonnie picked out since college, and I don't think I could bring myself to part with it, if it becomes popular.
It's not due for it's 100-year-rule comeback for another 30 years, but with the sudden trendiness of Scarlett, I am forseeing a bandwagon forming in the future. But I'm hoping it can hold off for a few years.
I was actually encouraged by the responses in this thread that said things like "ew", and "doesn't sound like it would belong to someone with a strong or vivacious personality". And I wasn't even offended when the Bumpie from New York said the name sounds "redneck-ish"! It's actually logical for a Northerner to think that way, since the Bonnie Blue flag was the unofficial flag of the confederacy during the Civil War. Therefore, this thread could actually have been a good thing: it made me see how much I really love the name, since I don't even care what bad things people say about it. Thanks BraveAngel!
