Need some stroller tips from moms with a preschooler and infant

To all the mommies out there with an older toddler or a preschooler and an infant or new baby on the way - I need some advice on strollers.

My son will be a little over 4 years old when my baby is born and will still be at the age where he will want to have a stroller to ride in if we are out and about for long periods of time.  Has anyone used:

 Joovy caboose

City Mini with glider board

Double City Mini w/car seat adapter on one side

Valco Latitude Double w/car seat adapter on one side

Basically, I want to know what's best for an older child and a newborn that will still need to be in the car seat when riding in the stroller for a while and these seem to have the most ability to support a 43" 40 pound child and a newborn.

Any input is appreciated!!!  Thanks!

  • My toddler is younger than yours so you can take my advice with a grain of salt, but I'll offer it anyway.

I have the Bugaboo frog and bought the wheeled board for it.  My DD loves riding it, and does well...no hopping off without letting me know first, etc.  However, if we're out for a long day or walking around a lot, she won't want to ride back home on it.  She won't sit on it either, which I've seen other kids do.  That could have something to do with her age, so your DS may respond better.  I only use that stroller for quick walks to a restaurant or similar outings.

I also have the City mini double and love it.  I didn't buy the carseat adapter, one because it was an extra $100, and I had heard it was heavy, bulky and awkward.  I don't regret it.  I put my DS in it at a couple months old and just used a snuzzler to buffer him.  It reclines to pretty much flat so he was fine.

We just got the City mini double and I don't plan to buy the carseat adapter either.  I looked at it, but I just didn't like that I would have to remove it to put the stroller into my car (I think you can leave it on, but it would have been too bulky for us).  So I also bought a used snap n go.  My plan is to just use the snap n go for short trips and have DS walk.  But I needed a double for big trips to disney, airport travel, etc.  I think this will be the perfect solution.

  • why don't you just carry the newborn in a moby wrap and have the older child in lightweight umbrella stroller? That's what I'm planning on doing. Ugh, what a nightmare it would be to have to lug around the carseat and a 4 year old!
