bright red butt

my poor lo has a bright red butt. near his anus and up the crack, not on the sides. we've been using sposies and just petrolium ointment (told to by nurse).

Any tips? i've been told to let it air out, but he peed r kelly style then pooed on his water proof sheet. he screams at diaper changes.

I feel bad and dont know what to do.

Boudreaux's Butt Paste. It is the best, I've never had to use it more than twice for redness to go away.

Poor guy!  I've used Boudreaux's, Burt's Bees, and Aquaphor.  I think Boudreax's or Desitin (b/c they have Zinc Oxide) would probably work best.  Definitely give him some no diaper time- I would just put DD down on a big blanket with a Gerber cloth diaper under her.  Once you switch to CD, they will probably help!  GL!

You have to really dry it out. If there's any moisture and you use petroleum jelly it will just trap it in there and make it worse. The best thing I've used is a mixture of lotrimin, corn startch and butt paste. The triple paste might have some lotrimin type stuff in it too. I bet you will need that to clear it up. Since it's just in the crease like that I bet it's a little yeast rash from sweat and heat.

Let him play outside naked for a while.  DS gets that yucky redness, too.  I usually slather on the desitin, or a&d ointment.  Hope he's feeling better soon!

Thanks for the tips everyone. I gave as much naked time as I could. He's only 3 weeks old, so playing outside may be a solution a little later . I'm in the process of washing his new cloth diapers, so hopefully those help when we can start using them. Poor guy has had a rough day. Me too since this is my first day of all day screaming. I've had an easy baby so far. I just feel so bad for him, espically since I'm such a new mommy with no baby experience.
