XP: EI after tubes--question

DD2 got tubes 11 months ago.  They are still perfectly in place.  She had some drainage from one ear last week and I took her in.  Pedi said it wasn't bad, the tubes are doing their job so we're treating with drops.  If you treated--successfully--with only drops, how long did it take for the drainage to "clear up"?

We started drops on Friday and she still has some drainage.  We are supposed to continue through Thursday but I'm skeptical that it'll clear up by then.

DD1 had drainage but she was one of those "odd" kids where she needed more aggressive treatment even after tubes.  She had to have a combo of drops and oral antibiotics to clear hers up.  Drops alone did not work.

I'm pretty bummed because I thought we might be in the clear not having an EI since she got tubes almost a year ago AND it is summer.  Hopefully this will be the last--we've been at the pool every weekend so it is probably too much water in her ears.

ETA: Pedi said we'd need to do ear plugs in the pool/tub only after another EI.  Hopefully this is a one-time deal.

Re: XP: EI after tubes--question

  • DS only had drainage once and the drops cleared up the infection almost immediately.  I think I only used them for a couple days.
    DS1 age 7, DD age 5 and DS2 born 4/3/12
  • With DS we always had to go with omnicef plus the ciprodex.  He's had 3 ei's with the tubes in place.

And I found out this morning that one of his fell out recently.  It's been 11mos.  boo.

    Good luck!
