Two Under 2

If #1 was a CS, what was #2?

With DD my water broke and I went into the hospital already 3cm. 24hrs, 2 epidurals, and 6cms later I ended up having a CS. I'm just curious- what did you WANT to have, another CS or vbac? What actually happened and why?

I had an emergency csection with #1 and wanted to vbac with #2.  I never went into labor on my own and since most docs won't induce a vbac'er I ended up with a repeat c. My advice is to try to vbac if you can.

  • I had a c-section with W (failed induction at 38w due to PIH/borderline pre-e) and will have a repeat c-section this go round.  In order for me to attempt a VBAC, I would have to switch to both a new ob practice and a new hospital.  I really like both my ob and the hospital, so I decided I'd just stick with a repeat.  And, now that I'm already spilling protein and having BP issues, I'll probably end up having C early, and wouldn't be able to VBAC anyway.

  • I had an emergency c/s with the twins.  I am hoping for a vbac this time.  We'll see what happens in a couple of weeks.

  • I had an emergency c-sec with #1 and then planned a c-sec with #2 for 39 weeks. I was given the option of trying a vbac or doing a c-sec for #2, and I elected to schedule the c-sec. It took a little bit longer for me to bounce back the second time, but I was still able to lift my toddler a couple of weeks later with no problem.
  • i was induced with DD at 39 weeks - after 2 failed rounds of cervadil/pitocin and 48 hours of unsuccessful labor, they did a c-section.  i am having another c-section this time.  my OB that delivered DD said that my uterus was in such bad shape after laboring for so long that i started hemorrhaging during the c-section, so in order to avoid further trauma they just scheduled it which was pretty much what i wanted anyway.....
  • I had a sceduled repeat c-section. I was advised during my c-section with DD, after a failed induction, that I shouldn't try to vbac especially since at only 6lbs 3oz, she would have never fit.

Even if they said I could vbac, I still would have had a repeat c-section. I had no interest in laboring for 24 hours only to end in another c-section.

  • I had a c/section both times - both after laboring and failing to progress (my kids both got stuck in funky positions that made it impossible for them to descend - two flukes, go figure).  I got to pushing both times.  I would not trade my vbac experience for the world even if it still resulted in the c-section.
  • Scheduled c-section with #1 - Breech baby

With #2 and #3 I WANTED to VBAC.

    With #2 - scheduled c-section - again Breech baby

With #3 - scheduled c-section - baby in right position but I was NOT allowed to VBAC.

The rules have changed now and they ARE allowing women to VBAC after 2 c-sections. I'm super bummed about this, but glad that more women in my position can now VBAC.

  • DS #1 was breech, so scheduled c/s. DS #2 was in position and I was desperately hoping for a VBAC, but my due date came and went without me going into labor (despite LOTS of false starts and making it to 2 cm), and since they wouldn't let me go far past my due date and they wouldn't induce, I ended up with another c/s. I was upset at first, but we ended up having a massive snowstorm the weekend he was born - had I gone into labor then, I may not have been able to make it to the hospital. So it all worked out for the best I suppose. I'm still bummed I'll probably never get to experience a vaginal birth though.
