I'm actually shocked by the rising popularity of this name. One of my HS friends named her first child this to be an Irish, but uncommon name. Guess it will be popular by the time her kid is in school.
I don't like the name.

I didn't like this name until I found out how it is supposed to pronounced, I thought it was something like "dee-clan" at first, but now I know it's "deck-lin."
I don't know that I would use it as a fn, but I like the name.

I was always confused on the pronunciation of this, too. I kept wanting to say it like day-clon, like it was French or something. Deck-lin makes more sense, though. Still NMS.
It gets my vote, my dh isn't a big fan so I don't think we will be using it though. I love it and think its a name that will become more popular just like Aiden, it will only take one hot actor with a hot role in a hot movie to be called Declan, and then it will be the next hot boys name!
My DH's short list had Declan on it. It was the only name that I didn't automatically go "uh, no, I dont' think so". I asked my DH about it (I had NEVER heard of it before). He told me where he found it, why he liked it, and how it was really one of the few names that he REALLY liked.
I sat on it for awhile, rolled it around in my head, and long story short, DS is Declan. It was definitely off the cuff for us, but now I love the name.
While it's becoming "more popular", it is still in the high 300's, so it's still really a pretty rare name.

This exactly. I like now that I get it, but I think ina few months it will be too trendy.

There was a movie this year called "Leap Year", and the male lead character was named Declan. I would say he was hot, but he wasn't a really well known actor, and the movie wasn't a huge success. (it was kind of cheesy)

I'll love you forever,
I'll like you for always,
As long as I'm living my baby you'll be.

So maybe this means that any other movies that are considering using the name any time soon won't use it b/c it was already used so recently?!
That would be good for me, because Declan is the #1 name on my short list!
