So the repeat of her Oprah episode is on.. remind me...
WHY did she need IVF in the 1st place and HOW did she pay for it? Man those kids have diverse looks... just one sperm donor?
And her eyelashes seriously look like Super Latisse action... isn't that $100 bucks a month or something? And how does she pay for 3 nannies???
And if you're having camera crews in... would YOU put on your skin tight pink jammies and parade around, lol?
I'll give her credit for trying to raise those kids.... but she's BSC, right?
;-)
Re: Random Octomom questions
You mean because her previous 6 children before the octuplets were also conceived via IVF?
IVF #1: ER 03/29/10; ET 04/01/10: transferred 2 embies; Beta #1 (9dp3dt)- 45; Beta #2 (11dp3dt)- 91= BFP
FET#1: ET 04/18/12: transferred 4 embies; Beta #1: >2 = BFN
IVF #2: ER 06/20/12; ET 6/25/12: transferred 2 embies; Beta #1 on 7/5/12= BFN
8/16: hysteroscopy for polyp removal
11/11: hysteroscopy #2 for yet another polyp removal
FET#2: ET 12/15/12: transferred 3 embies; Beta #1 (9dp5dt): 12/24/12: 426; Beta #2 (11dp5dt): 845= BFP
u/s 1/9= triplets!; miscarried all three on 1/10/13...
I was watching too but had to turn it off when all those babies started crying at once, it was when the older kid was stepping on one of the babies. I couldn't take it and wanted to jump through the tv and save them. I guess my "motherly instinct" is coming though hard core..and I changed the channel to watch Jeff Lewis on Flipping Out instead!!
I am not sure why she needed IVF. From my understanding, I don't think she "needed" IVF..that's just the method she chose to concieve her children. Why she didn't do IUI with the sperm instad I don't know??!!
Her doc/clinic isn't practicing any more. I think the whole thing was just unethical..why would you put back 6 embies..I still don't know. The whole thing is just crazy to me..
I spent way too much time analyzing this woman's story back when it broke, and I am still unconvinced that any of it is true. Yes, she had a doctor say she did IVF, but I just don't buy it. I wrote a long blog post about it and will C&P my investigative journalism here
**********
Since many of us have weighed in on the octuplet monstrosity, I thought I'd add my two cents. In fact, I'm watching her interview on Dateline. And I am firmly convinced that...
She's a lying liar who lies a lot.
She said that she had all six kids in 5.5 years - 5 pregnancies, one with twins, in 5.5 years. Moreover, she said she kept having to go back to the same sperm donor, which implies they were ALL fresh cycles.
So - she has a baby and right away wants to start a fresh cycle - she'd have to start right away in order to have that many pregnancies in the time frame, correct? OK, so she has a baby and decides to start again - how long does it take for a first post partum period to arrive? And then she has to go through a fresh cycle? And she still has kids a year apart? Let's see; each of my fresh cycles required anywhere from 1.5 to 3 months to get to transfer - and yet the kids are 1 year apart? It makes NO SENSE!!
Oh, and don't forget - she apparently had an ectopic in there somewhere too. So, 6 kids, 6 pregnancies, 6 IVF attemtps, all successful, in under 6 years?
AND! According to the interview, she had approximately 6 embryos transferred? In IVFs#1-4, about six embryos transferred led to 1 baby each time.
AND! In IVF#5, about six embryos transferred resulted in twins.
AND! IVF#6 (which happened when she had 1.5 year old twins), six embryos were transferred and ALL stuck...
AND! two split to identical twins.
Ladies and germs, it's a miracle - probably the only woman on the planet whose embryo quality IMPROVES with age.
Which is amazing, since - according to the interview, her "doctor" said her "reproductive system was aging prematurely"? And yet better implantation rates every time?
what. the. fkuc.
Why is no one putting these pieces together? Her story just doesn't hold water.
Getting to the octuplet pregnancy, let's examine her story. She said that 6 embryos were transferred for each of the FETs that she tried for her last pregnancy. These embryos were leftover from the cycle that resulted in the twins. So she had EIGHTEEN FROZEN embryos AFTER that cycle? I've been doing a lot of research into egg and embryo yields of - shock- egg donors. And 20 year old egg donors don't have such yields. And since she was experiencing "premature aging" of her reproductive system, that seems, oh... I don't know... like complete bullsh!t.
Here's my theory. Black market FSH. Injections. Sex. Octuplets.
And our tax dollars at work.
Nadya - thanks so much for setting the public's opinion about ART back about 20 years. Well done.

Granted I wrote this back in February 2009, but I still think that it's largely true. I am just not buying IVF.
I am a runner, knitter, scientist, DE-IVF veteran, and stage III colon cancer survivor.
you know Fedz... that makes a TON of sense. a TON.
And I know that siblings don't have to look alike, and even twins can be night and day difference... but look at all those kids side by side...
there are some seriously ODD DUCKS OUT, appearance-wise. From blond hair and fair to dark dark hispanic and AA looking. A really broad range of skin tones there. Even the octuplets are VERY different in appearance to eachother. Something is just not right.
I can't help but wonder if she used multiple "depositors" over a few day period for the 8.
She makes my skin crawl.
hmm, epphd you make some good points. I didn't see it but saw the original airing. She is BSC
I also think epphd's theory holds true because I know my RE commented that it was highly unethical to transfer 6 on someone of her age and with previous success. I know some on here have transferred a lot, but I think ethically the max is 5 and my RE won't even transfer more than 3 on anyone. I wish I had copied and pasted his article....have a link on my blog but it is broken now I think.
Her 'sperm donor' was someone she used to date, so who knows...
Oh, I did C&P what my RE said about the situation. In her case, he would have transferred one embryo.

When I first watched that oprah show on her...I got a headache just watching her...
she is really insane. she treats the kids weird in my opinion too.
well she has dark looks and I don't think she is hispanic, but she looks NOTHING like her mom. And her mom thinks she is BSC.....
she only thought she would get one out of transferring six - stupid.
She is BSC and so is her doctor. I think she said she had the $$ for all of this from a workers comp settlement, but I'm not 100% sure. I saw the Oprah episode and granted I don't have 14 or nannies but my pajamas NEVER match (or cling) my hair hardly gets brushed, nor do I have the time OR energy to seek out attention and sit down interviews to talk about my madness.
She's crazy and I really am sad for all the kids/babies they live in a zoo did you see thier 'play' areas the whole thing is a mess.
According to wikipedia, the claim about two embryos splitting into identical twins turns out to be false... So she either transferred 8+, or the whole thing is a load of crap. I'm going with E on the load of crap angle.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suleman_octuplets
Hmmm this is interesting!
I definitely agree with the BSC part
.
As for her ethnic background, I believe her father is Middle Eastern.
There is no worker's comp plan that would ever pay for a fraction of all that so I'm still very confused about where the $ came from- I'm pretty sure one of the issues w/ the parents was that they were upset b/c her father was going to have to go back to Iran (?) to earn more $ to help her out.
My biggest question though is why would the dr go along with all this, considering it basically led to threats of him losing his license, ruining his reputation (and he did have an IF practice that I'm assuming he did ok with!) and now not practicing anymore. There was definitely something off & unethical about the whole thing but who knows what. I have to wonder if there were multiple egg & sperm donors and I've always thought the dr used her as a guinea pig to try new techniques & stuff and maybe she got free treatments as a result. I do remember visiting his website back in the day & he claimed to use some sort of new technology to "implant" embryos in the endometrium or something (anyone else remember this? I don't think I'm making it up...).
Sooo crazy all around. I'm glad she never got a reality show.
the entire thing just doesn't add up! I think she is full of crap about a lot of things! One thing for sure those kids need a better mother!
I really wonder if she really did IVF sometimes and if she did how many she really did transfer because no way in hell did she transfer 6 and it resulted in 8! Sorry but i don't see how any of those kids she says are identical could be!
