My Aching Back!

I am 39 weeks along and this is my first pregnancy. My body has been absolutely killing me. In the evening I have been feeling contractions (they go away by morning) but in the morning and throughout the day I can barely move. It feels like I've been hit by a truck. My lower back hurts, my legs hurt, and I can feel muscles in my uterus pulling whenever I move.

In the late afternoon I am able to walk around but until then even turning over in my bed is a chore. Any advice out there from you fellow mommies??

Re: My Aching Back!

  • I'm at 36 weeks and am feeling the same way - especially first thing in the morning.  Rolling over/out of bed and walking to the bathroom is a challenge.  It seems that moving around more helps...though I'm still sore and achy.  I think it's just part of the ride for some of us. :-/

  • oi vey, I remember those pains well! I am so sorry you are not feeling par!

Do you see a chiropractor? If not, even this late in the game, they can help a TON with pregnancy aches and pains. I would find one that specializes in pregnancy (I can pm you some if you would like - I know two in Houston central, a few in N Houston, and a few out near Friendswood) .

If a chiro is not in the budget, you can always try some stretches. There is one in particular that really does help with lower back/sacrum/hip joints, sciatica, and uterine overstimulation.

The stretch is the cat/cow of yoga - you can see a video of it here, and here a description of it here.  It's super simple and really does help with not only aches and pains, but also getting baby in the best position for birth and getting your uterus off your bladder - meaning less dashes to the bathroom! :)

  • As soon as I had my kids, my back pain went away.  It was like getting those huge things out was the relief.

  • I had horrible back pain for most of the later part of my pregnancy.  It was caused by baby being face up instead of face down they said.  I hope yours gets better soon!
  • It's almost over! =] Get your partner to give you hot oil massages after a nice hot bath; not too hot or else it will slow blood flow to your baby!  This is my routine every night, right before I curl up into bed hugging my body pillow!

  • Thank you ladies! Your suggestions were very helpful. Swimming also really helped because it relieved the pressure of her weight down there.

The baby ended up coming on Tuesday of this past week (August 3rd)!

The pains were rough but after seeing her beautiful face I'm having trouble remembering just how rough they were : )
