the spelling payton?

my husband and i are set on naming this peanut payton/peyton if it's a girl..

 what are your thoughts on the spelling?

(don't really care if you care for the name or not.. no offense. )

Personally, I perceive Payton as the more masculine version and Peyton as the feminine. And, while I appreciate that Payton is spelled phonetically and therefore might actually be easier for someone unfamiliar with the name to pronounce, I don't like the 'look' of it nearly was much. I also think Peyton is easier to write in cursive than Payton (just one of the many tests I consider when choosing a name--sorry, I'm a name freak: ).

Payton looks like a last name to me.

I teach kindergarten and had a little girl in my class named Payton...thought it was nice because it sounds like it looks.

I teacher 1st-5th music at 2 elementary schools - I know at least 4 Payton/Peytons.  It's usually spelled with the "a" with my students.

If you're ok with your girl being named a name that boys also have, then go for it.  (I don't personally like names that are unisex because the child will have to spend their entire life clarifying boy or girl.)

I don't think one spelling is more correct than the other.  Strongly dislike this name.  Masculine and sounds like "pay a ton."

I really like Peyton/Payton. I think Peyton is more masculine (i.e. Peyton Manning) and Payton for a girl IMO.

I feel like this is one of those trendy names where there's several different spellings (some uneek), so I guess just pick whichever one you like best.

We are having a girl and naming her Peyton. ?So, I vote with the E spelling. ?:) ?I don't really have a good reason other than I think Payton with an A looks mispelled. ?

PS- I think it's a great name in general, but we also like unisex names. ?Other front runners before our final decision was made were Taylor and Avery- both of which could go either way. ?We just gave our Peyton a very girlie middle name of Rosalie. ?

I don't think Payton vs. Peyton makes any difference, really. I don't think of one being more masculine or feminine than another.

If you are set on using the name, I would go with Peyton. I like to consider the ways a name could be used to be made fun of throughout the child's life and I could easily see Payton being used in high school (or even middle school in this day and age!) by cruel classmates as in "oh, you'd have to PAY me a TON to date Payton" (or something similarly cruel and abusive)

I know a someone named Peyton who is in her 30s, so Peyton looks better to me.

Peyton.  Peyton Place, Peyton Manning.  To me Payton looks misspelled; like the parents wanted to spell Peyton but didn't know how.

I like the name Payton/Peyton. I am a teacher and the only Payton's I have had are boys, and the girls have spelled it Peyton. I think it's your choice, and there is no boy or girl way to spell it.

Peyton is more popular for a girl, which = less people misspelling it. I would choose this spelling if forced to pick one.

My SO's 3 yr old son is Payton.

Peyton looks more girly to me then.

This was one of the names on our list for DD before she was born.  I absolutely love Payton, but we were afraid it was getting a little trendy.  If we had used that name, we would have spelled it Payton.  I liked it better with the "a" as opposed to the "e".
