preschool question

DS is starting preschool this fall.  I will call the school to verify, but I'm curious...what will he need for the first day? I see posts about backpacks and stuff and I'm clueless as to what else he might need.  Never really thought about it until now.

Re: preschool question

  • 2 sets of clothes, a few pair of extra underwear.  Bathing suit, towel, and sunscreen.   DS does not bring a backpack.  He brings a lunchbox with lunch, which goes in the classroom fridge.  They provide snacks, milk, juice, water.  On Mondays, we bring a napsack (contains fitted sheet and blanket for the sleeppads that they provide).  Check with the school if you need to provide the pad.   We have to put sunscreen on DS before school and they reapply after naptime if they are going back outside.  Make sure to label everything.

DS has to have a large backpack with an extra uniform and socks in case of accident or getting dirtyang lunchbox daily. The first day he will also have to bring a pillow & blanket ( & a stuffed animal / blankie is optional) that will stay there for naps (stuffed animal/blankie can be taken home if needed for bed)

There is a seperate list for what they will need for winter weather but this is what the back to school list says.

  • I'm always thrown for a loop when I read posts about kids going to preschool with backpacks but after reading the other post, I see why they have backpacks.  My DD only goes 3 hours a day Monday-Thursday and the only thing we had to bring to put in her cubby were pants, socks, and underwear.  She did not need to bring any food or other supplies.  I think when she goes back to preschool in September I may also keep an extra pair of shoes in her cubby too because she had an accident and her shoes got wet so she just wore socks for the remainder of the school day which was probably an hour.

  • DS will be going for 2.5 hours twice a week. The only thing they want is a change of clothing. No need for a backpack, lunch box or anything else.

  • Ds goes for three hours, three days per week. He has to have a backpack with diapers, wipes and an extra change of clothes. Someone brings in a snack on their assigned week so when it's his turn, that'll go in the backpack as well. I also pack him a sippy cup of water.

ETA: He went last year to the MMO program so I knew what to expect. However, they just mailed a letter home reminding us about the first day of school and what the kids will need. They also have an open house the week before school starts and they cover it there as well.

  • We got a school supply list sent to us in the mail. It has everything on it that he'll need for the year.

ETA: DS will go for 2 1/2 hours twice a week and his list is more actual school supply stuff such as crayons, glue sticks, etc.

  • My kids have to bring a change of clothes, snack and a water bottle.  They have backpacks that I put the clothes and snack in.  It isn't necessary but it is cute and an easy way for them to carry their stuff.

  • Our school had a school supply list on their website.  I bet the standard is extra clothes, backpack (ours had to fit a notebook), lysol wipes, glue sticks, safety sticks, colors, tissue, notebook...

I need to print of DDs Kindergarten list!
