Which crib are you getting/did you get?

We went to order our crib yesterday from BRU and found out our color is discontinued.  We are trying to match the crib to the furniture I had as a baby which is my parent's dream.  The furniture pieces are still in great condition..  It is a color that doesn't seem to have many options out there (oak/pine).  Baby funiture seems to come in dark wood or white as the main two options.  So we are between getting this crib the Delta Duval crib from BRB, which got bad reviews in Baby Bargains but 4 out of 5 stars on BRU reviews.  We are now between purchasing this crib or getting a whole new set.  Please share what you are getting for your little LO.  (The nurseries and baby gear board does not seem to get too many responses).  Thanks ladies!

Re: Which crib are you getting/did you get?

  • I'm still not 100% on how to link things and add pictures, but I will say that we were seriously considering a crib at BRU but ended up changing our minds. Our reasoning was due to the fact that the ratings weren't that great on BRU and that when I went to walmart.com I found a crib and dresser/changer that I liked better, for just slightly more ( for the 2).

We got the Storkcraft Aspen fixed sides crib in espresso from walmart.com, they also have that in oak, and "natural".

I think finding something to match pine/oak may be a little difficult (dark woods are the style now), but probably not impossible. Its all about what YOU want... if you really want to match your new crib with your cherished furniture then I say go for it, but if you are just doing it for your parents sake, forget it. I had that difficult conversation yesterday when my mother was pushing that I take all of my old bay items for our LO.

Sorry I can't weigh in anymore about the crib you are considering, I haven't heared anything either way :) GL.

  • We are getting a DaVinci crib (Target) and they offer the 'natural wood' as an option on many of their cribs. We liked the company from the safety standpoint (very few recalls) and that the beds can convert into a toddler bed and then into a regular bed! Good luck!
  • We're probably getting the Ikea Gulliver crib.  It is pretty cheap, has good safety ratings, and is simple-looking.  We didn't want a convertible crib or something with a lot of detail.

  • Having a complete matching furniture set is NMS, so we purchased the Manhattan Soho white crib from Brattdecor.com and then bought a six drawer vintage white dresser from a local shop. My DH will be building a changing top on the top of it so that it can be removed when she is older. Good Luck.

  • I was looking at some of the Baby Italia and Baby Cache one from BRU but the last time I went to the store they all looked really small to me. I love one of the Westwood cribs but is just a little more then we wanted to spend even though my parents are giving us $1000 for nursery furniture (I am trying to stretch that money as far as I can and get the crib, changing table and glider). Westwood also makes the Bedford Baby cribs for JcPenney so I am looking at the Tribeca crib but they dont have the matching changing table/dresser in the chocolate mist anymore. Ahhh decisions decisions!
  • We will be going with this Ikea crib https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60108663

We have one and it's been great....I wish the trio were out of their cribs then we wouldn't have to buy one, but I am not ready for that yet LOL.

  • That's sweet that you've got the furniture you had as a baby. Is it possible for you to stain it or paint it white? I know if its classic you might not want to tamper with it, but I've seen some really cute DIYs where people paint classic furniture all sorts of cute colours. It might be easier to match a crib to it then?

Iif you really want to match your new crib with your cherished furniture then I say go for it, but if you are just doing it for your parents sake, forget it. I had that difficult conversation yesterday when my mother was pushing that I take all of my old bay items for our LO.

When I told my mom how difficult it is to find a crib in this color she told me to look online, which I have been doing.  When I said there is not much there and most are dark/white/some natural...she goes, "Well your aunt still has your crib that matches perfectly."  I say, "I am not using a 27 year old crib (which has been through 4 kids now over those year) with double drop sides because its been proven they are not safe."  My mom goes.."Maybe you just need to put away your Baby Bargains book while deciding on a crib.  I'm just saying your crib is still usable and we still have it."

This is a difficult and sticky situation.  My furniture pieces are in great condition with some wear and tear, but none the less would be fine to clean up and use for our LO, which would is what my parents hoped for when purchasing this furniture for me.  When I wanted to sell it a few years back, I thought I thought they would die from heart break.  So I had to rent a storage unit to store it!  Fast forward a few years later, my parents where estastic when they heard we found a crib to match the existing furniture.  It would be a huge $$ saver to just purchase a crib and use the existing dressers.  We also have a twin bed and desk with hutch that would go with the furniture set when LO gets older.  When I said we might have to purchase a new set, my Mom goes "Well I guess you guys are just going to have to buy something new then."  I could tell she was upset because she had to go.  I have a feeling that my old crib may make an appearance soon at my house/my mom's because "it would work just fine, just look at it"

I'm very torn on what to do, but thanks for sharing your cribs!

  • I kind of had to go back to the drawing board after we inherited a ton of oak furniture for the baby's room from DH's parents.  I'd been pretty much set on the Graco Lauren crib in espresso up til now, but they don't make that crib in oak/natural.  I think now my choice is DaVinci Thompson in oak.  Not my fave, but I can't turn down (free) heirloom furniture just because the color isn't my cup of tea.  (If it was new/cheap furniture I'd restain or paint it in a heartbeat, but I just can't paint great-grandma's dresser, lol)

  • We are planning on betting the Davinci Kalani cribe and nursery furniture from Target.

But with regards to your furniture issue...  You can go to www.amishdirectfurniture.com, pick out a crib, have them send you samples of the stain colors on the wood of your choice.
One of the selections under 'click here to pick your stain color' is to send samples.  This way you can match the samples up to your existing furniture and get a match.  The furniture is a little more expensive ($848+) than a typical crib you buy, but the craftsmanship and quality can't be beat.  Plus you don't have to buy the rest of the nursery furniture so it still won't be that expensive for you.

Here is one of the cribs:  https://tiny.cc/79dzh

  • We're getting the Romina Nerva collection in black.  Here's a pic of the crib:

This is the exact crib we just ordered! It has great reviews on BRU (over 200 people) and I saw it in the store. Very sturdy and looks great! And how funny Andysgrl08, if we have a boy, we are naming him Jacob!
