1st Trimester

Registering?

I know I am early but we are team green and my shower is going to be thrown in late October/early November. How long does it take to register and am I going to look crazy going in August? I would like to get most of it done before school starts back up at the end of August!

Re: Registering?

  • Last time around, we registered right after our big ultrasound.  But if you're not finding out the sex, I wouldn't think it would matter how early you do it.  As long as you know that a lot of manufacturers discontinue lines of products and put new ones out ... so you might want to keep tabs on something like that if you're registering really early.

  • with ds, I did all mine online because we did not have a BRU in alaska and my shower was in the lower 48. You can do it in a day whenever you want.

  • Thanks! Those are good tips about discontinued items! I was thinking of doing most of it online since I have been looking around stores for quality. Online would be really easy so I can then check consumer reviews too!

    Thanks!

  • I hear it is good to start around the end of your first trimester. I am putting gender neutral stuff on mine so I can reuse it for the future. As far as the clothing and stuff, I am going to wait until I find out the sex of the baby.

There is so much stuff to add and decide on. The earlier the better I say.

Honestly, I would not add clothing to your registry.  People are pretty much going to buy what they feel is cute, not something that you want your child to wear.  The only reason why I would add the clothing is for the discount at the end.  Since you are the only one that will be buying it.

  • Often if you register (set up your account) in the store, you'll get freebies. But you can usually then continue to add things online. I'd recommend you set up your registry whenever you want, and then add things in store or online, whatever's easiest.

Oh, and don't go by the checklists they give you at Babies R Us, etc.. for what to register for! Buy a copy of "Baby Bargains" for some really good recommendations and safety ratings on products as well as advice on what you really need and when.

  • Our shower isn't going to be until November either, and we're going to register this weekend.  We thought we'd go and put everything on the registry that we know we need at this point, and just add online as time goes on.  Mainly this weekend because it's our first free weekend in forever, and our only free weekend for another month or so!  Have fun!
