challenging food sensitivities

I'm not sure how to go about doing this.  We haven't seen blood in Simon's diaper for a long time - since we started solids pretty much.  I'm not sure when/how to try to add foods back in. i'm so apprehensive to try anything and end up with a screaming baby.  He's sensitive to wheat/gluten/dairy/soy/tree nuts.

I've been eating a few almonds here and there and haven't noticed anything.  I've tried peanuts that had soy in the flavoring (literally, like 10 peanuts total) and they were ok.  I think wheat/gluten is the next thing to try but I don't know how to incorporate them in small doses.  I'd love to be able to eat an actual sandwich as opposed to the lousy G/F bread.

I may be wrong, but this is my personal understanding. When you challenge you should have a significant amount of whatever it is so if there's a reaction you know for sure what the cause is. If you have very small doses and LO only gets a tummyache, you may not know if it's a reaction or if LO is just sleepy/grumpy, etc (depending on behavior). I'm not saying have so much that there's blood in the diaper, but enough that if there's a reaction you'll see a significant difference in mood.

  • When I eat gluten I get really sick to my stomach. (I only have to eat a very small amount to feel sick) As he might to and not be able to tell you. If I was in your shoes I would only add one thing at a time for a couple of weeks and see how he is. If he seems really fussy then it might not agree with him. Then add another thing. Our GI Dr. told us that it can take 6wks to know if a food or formula is working or making a baby sick. All I got to say is this is a really hard thing to deal something I have been dealing with all my life.
