Ok, so before I left the apartment today to run errands for hubs' birthday, I did laundry and hung my running gear out to dry on the deck. I always hang the shirts, bras, panties, and running tights/capris out there to dry. On hangers...securely...... or so I thought. I came home to find 50% of my gear blowing down the very busy (3 lanes in each direction) thoroughfare that we live on. OY! I was able to recover all but my favorite pink training shirt from the Nike Women's Marathon 2009 and the matching Lululemon techno-kinis!!!! DH is currently walking the dog around the block to see if he can recover my gear..... Love him, hate my goof up!
On the other hand, as I was relaxing at the spa getting my nails and eyebrows done (yes this was part of the prep for his birthday tomorrow!) I decided on my 5 year plan. It is my goal to qualify for the Boston Marathon by my 45th birthday. That gives me just under 5 training years and a lot of work. I will have to loose a lot of fat and shave nearly 3 minutes off of my current pace. But nothing like setting a goal...
Sorry this is long...
Re: NTTC+35R: Running (gear) amuck!
LOL that must have been quite the sight seeing women's undeware floating through the air! I hope your DH found them for you.
I like your plan. Congrats on your current weight loss!! Good luck with your training. I run too, but I am no where near marathon ready...I'm doing 5k's (but having a hard time with that recently ) I have a 10k in October and someday, *someday* I hope to do a 1/2 marathon, but a full one just isn't in the cards for me. So I'm jealous
That is so funny about your running gear. Your husband should have your dog smell your clothes (like hunting dogs in the movie) and then set him free to see how many things he can find off your scent.
I just ran my first 5k a week ago, and have started training for a 10k, and boy am I sore.
I have a question about training: I started running recently, and I'm not sure if I should be worried about it interfering with ttc. I also don't want to be the person who worries about how EVERYTHING in life references ttc, but I feel it creeping in (esp. since AF came today). Did you talk to your doctor about running or is it not necessary? I am in between doctors right now, but I have a first appt. with a new one in September.
Thanks ladies... It really was comical and DH is such a love! I just figure that I will see some 300 pound homeless man stuffed in to my hot pink shirt one day.... we are in SF ya know!
@curlyhairedboys: I never thought I would be completing half marathons several years ago, but here I am. I am most comfortable at 5k, so 13.1 miles is serious training and will power. Plus I have the most amazing and supportive group of friends in a run club. (I don't want to be the "fat girl" in that group, which is motivating!)
@tallulahs: my Dr said running was ok, but my acupuncturist said walking only. She believes that we need to be gentle on the body. Both agreed that I should lose a few pounds, but not as much as my personal goal! Obviously, I am still here TTC. I have recently had a change in TTC "practice" and have decided to leave it up to God. In the MEantime, I am taking care of ME. I am losing weight, getting into shape. I am back to enjoying time with my husband (including "private time", dinner and wine with my husband, I am just looking to find me again. I got so caught up in the TTC that I was stressing myself out. Now my philosophy is that I expect AF every month and will be surprised when she isn't here. I know that this is not for everyone, but it is what I need for now.
The Boston Marathon is so fun! I've never run in it, but we went every year with my dad when I was a kid, and then I went every year with my friends. It is a huge, fun, party-ish day in Boston!
People who have done marathons in other places say that Boston is the only one with fans cheering along every inch of the 26.2 miles.
Lots of my friends and family have done it and there are ways to get numbers through charities, etc.
Hooray to you for taking care of yourself!
Ugh - I hope you can find your fave running shirt! I've been running for about two years, and I totally rely on a couple of fave gear choices to motivate me. For some reason, I just run better in certain shirts.
Woo hoo on your plan - love it! I'm training for my second half-marathon in November (and a third in January). I'm not sure that I'll ever be brave enough to do a full. 13.1 is plenty long enough for me. I'm such a slow poke that I waste too much energy to go much further.
Good luck on your training! I bet you have some gorgeous routes in SanFran!
@nikilouhoo: Are you running the Women's Half in Tempe??? I wanted to run that (love the medal/charm) but my coach thought it was too soon after the Nike Women's Half. I am also running a half in January in Maui. BTW, just read your "meet and greet" tidbit. ROFLMAO!!!
@JilliansMoma: I run it all! I love my flat runs on the Embarcadero and The Marina, but my training takes me through the hills of the Presidio, Nob Hill, etc. I tend to run in GG Park during the the school year. My office is a couple of blocks from the park.
@RSB: I want to qualify for Boston, if only to annoy my eldest brother! (hee hee) He has always called me the fat little sister (he is the family runner/triathlete). He completed an Ironman in Germany years ago, but never qualified for Boston in all of his training. So this would just pi$$ him off!!!! (We are a competitive family)
Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that you couldn't qualify. . . I just got so excited when I saw Boston Marathon That is an awesome goal. . . maybe I can meet you for a drink when you finish!!!!
Yep - I'm running the Women's half. I love the medal, too! Maui - now that's a run I would *love* to do. Talk about gorgeous!
Yeah, it took me a while, but I can finally chuckle at my first finish. It's a good story at least
@RSB: no offense taken at all. I really don't think I will qualify, but one never knows. I do love how a lot of groups offer fundraising opportunities to get into these races.
@nikilouhoo: good luck to ya! If you want to check in from time to time re: training, that would be awesome. We should have a half marathon check-in!!!!
Awesome idea! I really need to step up my training (right now averaging 12-15 miles a week, and my long run is right around 6 miles). A weekly check-in would be perfect.
