First overnight with baby: What do we really need?

to take with us. The car will be crowded. Me,DH another couple, and GEM. We are all staying at my folks for the weekend. We dont have much planned except for visiting with everyone and swimming. Trunk space is going to be at a premium.

What do you think?

  • I would take the PNP, outfit for her to sleep in, sound machine, and anything else required for her to sleep, as well as clothing and swimsuit. I would leave toys at home for the most part. You are visiting grandpaents and they will likely get her a toy or two while there, and if they don't then break out the tuperwear and woden spoon for her to play with.

  • Here's what I took and what I ended up using:

sleep postioner (used it)(she slept on the bed with me - DH wasn't with us...I also had the top half of our bassinet but obviously that wouldn't fit in your trunk)

swaddle me blankets (2 - jic)   (used it)

bouncy chair (used it but didn't really need it because we had her car seat)

a couple of rattle-type toys  (used it)

clothes (including a few spare outfits)

formula and bottles (JIC) (used it)

    pump

stroller (didn't need it since we ended up not going to the fair - which is why I brought it)

nursing supplies (cover, burp clothes, lanolin, etc)

Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.

  • Food (boobs/nursing pads for you, pump, nursing cover, formula and bottles, place to sleep (either with you in bed or other), diapers, wipes,  (pack more than you think you will need), enough clothes, so you have 2 outfits per day, and one set of PJs a night(you can always do laundry if needed). 2-3 blankets, stroller and car seat. (car seat can always be used to rock baby if needed.)butt cream, burp cloths, make sure you take your diaper bag with the changing pad. I might take a rattle or something simple if you don't already have stuff hanging from the car seat or stroller.
