We live in a 1000sq/ft ranch. We have 3 bedrooms, but I think the boys would enjoy sharing a room. Maybe not forever, but perhaps for the next couple of years. Bunk beds scare me, so I was thinking about a trundle bed for our 2nd. Anyone use a trundle as a regular bed? We have to maximize the space we have.
Re: Trundle bed instead of bunk beds?
Trundle beds are cool, IMO. the only downfall is that there wont be a bed out at all times for one of the kids to go lay down and take a breather if you put the trundle away each morning.
But, I am very much against bunk beds, they scare the bejesus out of me, so I would much rather do a trundle than a bunk.
Yeah, I invision them trying to jump off the bunk. I know the trundle would be a pain to put away each day, but they are not big nappers. They also are both sound sleepers and if you read my post below, they have no trouble falling asleep in the same room!
I *really* dislike bunk beds as well.
My only issue with trundle beds is that the child who sleeps on the bottom seems like he is sleeping in his brother's bed. As if he doens't have his own bed, kwim?
We bought the girls a bunk bed with trundle set. They use the bottom bunk and the trundle. We dont have the ladder or a mattress up on the top yet so they cant get up there and theres nothing there to sit on. (we didnt put the slats down) Once they turn 6 we will try out the top bunk. If they can use is and not play around we will keep using it. If not we will go back to what we are doing now.
Hayneedle.com has some nice sets. They have good customer service too. A part came in cracked so instead of unwrapping the entire set dh insisted they send an entire new set. They did and we ended up with a 2nd ladder and slat set because it was cheaper to just send a 2nd set (that comes together boxed) than to ship the one back. ??? I dunno. They also gave us an $80 refund.
The girls love their new bed. We got it in the spring and they havent broke anything on it yet.
We keep the bottom trundle pulled out most of the time. If Im upstairs doing laundry and they are in their room playing I push it in so they have more room to play. Its a small room and 2 twin beds would be all that could fit in there so this was really our only option. I looked for about 5months for a bed for them.

That's why I am torn. I don't want the 2nd to feel cheated, but I also think they would enjoy it for a few years.
My girls dont feel cheated at all. They take turns sleeping on each bed. I didnt make it out to be that this is one or the others bed. I said, this is your new bed, you can pick a bed now and we can switch later. They randomly switch beds. Since they have the same sheet sets its no big deal.

This is the bed my girls have. We got white but it comes in several different finishes.
