Hi ladies, I'm popping over from 2nd tri since PUPPS seems to happen most in the 3rd trimester. Two days ago, I got a rash, like tons of little red pin pricks on both my forearms. I called the Dr. and they didn't seem concerned in the least, saying that rashes are common in pregancy and that it's probably PUPPS.
I've looked at google images and it looks like PUPPS is way worse that what I'm experiencing, however, it's early, so I'm wondering if it IS PUPPS, it might get worse....sigh....
The rash itself seems less inflamed now, but seems to be spreading to the backside of my arms, neck, etc. Is this just something to deal with? Or should I be insisting that I get checked out?
TIA!
Re: Anyone have PUPPS/other rashes?
If it is spreading, I might call back and say that it doesn't look like the images of PUPPs you found and that it is spreading and you're concerned. Since it's almost the weekend, you don't want to have to suffer with a potentially itchy or miserable rash all weekend, KWIM? At least they may be able to reassure you.
I've had red pin pricks (looks like I was attacked with one of those skinny red sharpies) on my belly since a few weeks after my BFP. It gets worse in the heat (spreads and grows darker) and looks awful after my walks, but it's only on my belly and only itches when I'm overheated.
Now for the obvious- have you changed shampoo, body wash, lotion, detergent, etc? Even if you haven't, check to make sure there isn't a 'new formula' announcement on any bottle you just opened. Did you wear something that could have irritated your skin?
I just had it confirmed today that I have PUPPPs, and mine started on my chest, and has since spread to my arms, belly, and thighs. Here's a link to the post I just put up on the October '10 Moms board... there are some good suggestions there. Good luck!

Nope, no new products, no different clothes or foods, nothing. Mine actually seems to get BETTER in a hot shower, and it's like technicolor during the day, it goes from red, to just bumps, back to red, pink, etc. It spreads/retracts/spreads...so strange.
Rashes are very common in pregnancy.
The only thing that helped mine take the itch away was to take 2 tsp of Children's Benadryl.
There isn't much they (doctors) can do about rashes, sadly.
You can also put hydrocortisone on it.
I had PUPPS with my first pregnancy in the middle of summer! The only thing that I found that would work is A & D ointment. Get the big tube of it and lather it on thick. Before bed you might want to try Aveno oatmeal bath.
It too started on my arms - then I had it all over my legs. It never spread to my face or my stomach.
Thanks ladies. This is all great info.
Probably a stupid question, but at what point is a rash a health concern/concern to the fetus? I mean, I've had them in reaction to antibiotics, and every rash I've seen online is usually the result of environmental influences or diseases that we've all been immunized against.
I don't have a fever, so when does a rash become a concern? Or are they generallly pretty benign?
I went to the urgent care bc I had these incredibly itchy bumps on my belly. they seemed to be right where i suddenly developed strechmarks. My dr. told me to take claritin and use aquaphor to help ease the itching. No one has full confirmed if its PUPPs or not, but from looking online i think thats what it is. Mine isnt anywhere else though, just on the bottom of my belly.
I hope you dont have PUPPS. Sometimes it goes away when you deliver, other times it sticks around. Im hoping this goes away either when I deliver or before.

There are a few very rare rashes that can cause preterm labor, placental abruptions and miscarriage early on. Yours doesn't sound like any of them, they're usually on your belly. As long as you've seen you dr. about it, I'm sure it's nothing to be concerned about. PUPPP, excema, psoriasis and things like that are just annoying and aren't any risk to the pregnancy I believe.
