Babies: 9 - 12 Months

How much time does your LO spend playing independently?

Tahlia wants me in the same room but does not necessarily want to play with me.  If I sit down on the flooor with a toy to play with her she will look up at me, engage me for a few minutes, then crawl away to play on her own. I feel guilty writing bills or bumping instead of playing with her.

  • Grace needs me near her too or she melts down. I think it is the age, they are still very much "babies" but they want to explore and see new things and play on their own.

  • J plays on his own all the time. He's not really clingy and usually if I try to hold him, he wriggles until he can get down and do his own thing.

  • My kids could play together in the playroom for hours without me! I feel so un-needed, lol. Maybe it is because they have eachother.

  • all. day. long.

either they play independently, or they play with each other.

i will sing songs/play instruments with them, play ball, read books, set up activity stations, etc...and they do enjoy my participation. however, if i walk away, they dont seem to care.  unless they get tired, then they want cuddles which is fine with me!

Same here. I sit and play with him part of the day and we do a few book-reading sessions, but he is perfectly content playing on his own.

This is DS too. ?He loves to just push his trucks around the living room, or concentrate on putting things in his bucket then take them back out. ?He plays on his own very well.

  • DD loves to play on her own. if i'm there, she's happy, if i leave the room for a minute, she's still happy.

DD loves independant play. We're always in the same room with her and join in at times but she's very happy playing on her own.
  • It really depends on the day. This morning he wants nothing to do with me, he would rather play with his train or blocks. Otheer times he needs me right next to him all day playing with him. I still try, but sometimes he just isn't interested.

This exactly. If we wants me he just follows me and pulls himself up and then put his hands up for me to pick him up.
