The midwives of Women's Specialists of Houston are awesome. I switched my care from another OB office to them at around 16 weeks. There are 4 of them and you end up seeing all 4 in office before delivering. The level of care is top notch and completely different from what I experienced with an OB. I had a great L&D experience with them.
To use them, you'll have to deliver at St. Luke's. I didn't have a good experience post-partum with the hospital so I plan to use the midwives for my prenatal care and then schedule my c/s at Methodist with Dr. Zepeda from the practice.
There are wonderful options in the Houston area. If you are looking for well woman care, or prenatal care, you have the option of a certified nurse midwife in the hospital setting, home birth setting, or birth center setting.
Women's have a group of Midwives, but I personally have no experience with them. I have heard great things, though, about them and their hospital is one of the better in the city for mother-friendliness.
Pat Jones and Jackie Griggs are two CNMs who do home births. Jackie also runs a birth center.
Finally, there is another birth center called Nativiti that is run by CNMs.
Good luck, I can tell you from personal experience, the Model of Care you receive from a midwife is SOOO different than that of an OB, I am a midwife convert!
I am also seeing the midwives through the Women's Specialists of Houston at St. Luke's. This is my first pregnancy, so I cannot comment on post-partum, but I have loved the practice so far. All four of them are great!
I third the Womens' Specialists' Midwives. When my daughter dropped she was facing my hip, and Dawn the midwife was very patient and helped to turn her. I am convinced the majority of OBs would have sectioned me. The midwives totally understood my wishes for delivery and I know if they had recommended a section, it would have been 100% necessary. I also have had great post-partum care, and have corresponded with Dawn via email and her personal cell phone on a particular issue I was having. All 4 of these ladies are amazing!

Birthing Well is another homebirth practice that I can recommend, along with the Greater Houston Midwives Alliance for additional options.
