Success after IF

ectopic pregnancy ?

If you've been through an ectopic pregnancy would you mind sharing your symptoms and timeline (when did you have pain- if you did) with me?

I received my first ever BFP last Wednesday at 9dp5dt but like everyone that goes through IF I'm still very hesitant to be excited. My first beta was 73 and second was 140 (so close to doubling but not quite). And then yesterday I started experiencing sharp twinges on my left side near my ovary (similar to when I've been stimming). It comes and goes but seems to be in the same spot.

I plan on calling my RE's office tomorrow if it's still bothering me but I made the mistake of googling and now my brain keeps going back to an ectopic pregnancy.

TIA!

lap 9/09= mild endo & PCO (but not S) SA= normal IUI #1-#4= BFN IUI #5 cancelled- too many follies IVF #1 = BFP

Re: ectopic pregnancy ?

  • I've been through an ectopic, but I think you're fine from what you've described.  Your betas look good and those twinges came with all 5 of my pregnancies (only one was ectopic).  With my ectopic I had pretty good betas and the pgcy felt pretty normal until I almost passed out in the shower a couple weeks after my bfp.  From there it was extreme pain and I was taken by ambulance to the hospital.  My story is a little unusual.  More typically they have slow rising betas (slower than a little under double), and bleeding/spotting of some kind.  Pain comes later than where you're at now.

  • I had an ectopic too.  Had dull pain almost from the get go on my right side- we chalked it up to a luteal cyst.  At about 6 weeks or so, I had what looked like a full period but very dark brown bleeding.  My betas at first barely doubled or were just a bit off, then they were up and down for awhile before making a big jump up.
  • from what I understand the baby is not big enough to cause pain in the tube until 5-6 weeks.

I bet you're having some cyst action with that ovary, and congrats on the pregnancy!

  • Congrats with your pregnancy!  I've had 2 ectopics.  The first time was more like flu symptoms.  I was nauseated and almost fainted while trying to walk to the bathroom once to vomit.  There was pain when the doctor pressed on my abdomen area, and he thought it might be appendicitis (I wasn't TTC at the time so we didn't suspect ectopic pregnancy).  The second time I must have been further along because I felt a sharp pain followed by cramping, and my tube burst.
2nd ectopic resulted in loss of tube. HSG revealed remaining tube is "severely torqued".

  • With my ectopic my betas were doubling like they should have been so this threw my re for a loop.

My symptoms were gross black (sorry tmi) clotting for what seemed like forever I "think" it was maybe 10 days (after my beta was drawn so we knew I was pg) and then the day before my u/s I had horrific left sided cramps that knocked me to the floor. u/s confirmed ectopic in my left tube.

w/ the pg that resulted in ds I experienced some mild cramping/tringing in each ovary for most of the 1st tri, I was told this is normal. This sounds like what you might be experiencing. But doesn't hurt to call. Good luck!
