Please help me with LO's sleep!

I need some advice/help. Landon is up from about 4 am-12 pm everyday. He sleeps here and there maybe 10 mins at a time. Around 1 pm he will fall asleep and stay asleep until 5 or so. Then he will have a bottle fall back asleep until 9 when we wake him up for bath, a book, and a bottle. Then he will sleep until about 1 again.

So I told DH today that we need to start waking him up in the afternoons instead of letting him sleep for hours and hours and playing with him to try to keep him up more . So maybe that he would sleep in the mornings some. During that time, he is extremely fussy and has to be held.

I don't know how much sleep a 1 month old should be getting. I have tried to look on the internet and everything is about a newborn or like a 3 month old baby.

I told DH I thought Landon was doing good for how he is. But he disagrees with me and says that he should be sleeping more in the morning time.

I need some advice on what to do please. I hope this makes sense!

  • It seems like Landon has his days and nights mixed up......Gianna has always been like clockwork she usually only goes about an hour to an hour and a half of wakefulness and then needs to nap...When she was one month old she use to sleep for 2 hours roughly each nap, but now she is a 20 min napper aghhhh....

I did not read what Annie posted, but as fussy as he is going to be, I think you need to keep him up more during the day and get his days and nights right....

  • He definitely needs more sleep, also sleep at different times does different things for you body/brain so when you sleep is important too. I don't know how qualified I am to give sleep advice considering my kid doesn't sleep that well, but I read the book Healthy Sleep Habits, Healthy Child and it tells you what to look for as far as your baby letting you know they are sleepy and how to try to soothe them to get them to fall asleep. It also talks about sleep training but that is not until they are a bit older. I like the book pretty well, I can't always get her to sleep when I think she needs it but I think I have a little better idea what she needs at least. Good luck!
  • My Baby411 book says that at 1 month a baby needs at least 8.75 hours at night and 6.75 hours a day (3-4 naps)
