Prescription Prenatal Vitamin

I had my first appointment today- yay!  The doctor thought he saw 2 sacks.  We'll solve that mystery in 2 weeks.  :)  But in the meantime:

My doctor gave me a WHOLE BUNCH of Rx prenatal vitamins to try.  He didn't like the brand that I'm currently taking, which prompted the plethora of samples (I have personally liked the Target brand...)  in any case, has anyone taken or is anyone taking these?

Prenexa

natelle One

Prefera OB +DHA

Prenate Essential

Vitafol-OB + DHA

Select-OB + DHA

If you are, what do you think?

  • My doctor gave me some of these samples too....but the nurse told me when I asked which one is the best...she said "Oh, theyre all good, it just depends on which ones are easiest to take"

My Dr. said it doesnt matter if I take over counter ones either! So I take Nature's Made pre-natal with DHA. It's like $10 for a month.

  • As long as it has 600 mcg of folic acid you'll be good.  The rest is more a matter of what doesn't cause side effects.
  • Vitafol-OB + DHA

I'm on this one, its easy on my stomach but make sure you swallow the fish oil one right away or it gives you a nasty fish after taste

  • i took the select ob + dha which i loved. however after a couple weeks i didn't feel well with them so i stopped but i think it was just some major M/S bothering me or the DHA pill

  • I take Prefera OB + DHA, and I swear by it!  They are easy to swallow, tiny, and are very pleasant on the stomach!  I highly recommend it!
  • I'm taking Select OB + DHA.  My friend is taking Vitafol OB + DHA.  They're extremely similar...in fact...I don't know if they have any differences besides their name.

One good thing about Select is that the blue vitamin is chewable!  You can also swallow it if you'd like.  The DHA vitamin has to be swallowed.  I have had no problems and have been taking them since May.

  • Target is actually a good one because the Vitamin A component is from beta-carotene which is a 'safer' version of Vit A. I took that and Expecta (for DHA) with #1, and now with #2.

Expecta is better than a fish oil based DHA supplements because Expecta is a non-fish based supplement, therefore there is no chance of mercury being in there, and no fishy aftertaste.

I've been taking Nature Made pre-natal with DHA and haven't had any m/s yet(6 wks. today!).  They're pretty easy to swallow too!

  • I've been taking vitafol ob with FHA for a couple of years. The dha is plant based so there is no fishy aftertaste. It doesn't make m/s worse either. Try the samples and see what you like.
  • I was put on PregVit when I started with the RE. It's two pills though. One first thing in the AM on an empty stomach, the second within an hour of dinner. It's never bothered me to take two though.

  • I'm taking Integra (because of low iron), but before I was taking these, I took the Target ones and liked them fine. I can't really speak for any of the specific ones you mentioned.

  • I tried the Vitafol because it has a generic covered by my insurance ($5 as opposed to the others which are $30), but the generic version's DHA is fish-oil based.  I liked that this one is plant based.  I have 2 weeks until my next appt., so I'll be sure to use your advice & my experience to sort things out by then!  Thanks, all!

  • I take Prenate DHA.  Before there was a generic, my dr gave me coupons from the company that would cover my copay.  Now that there's a generic, it costs me the same as the Target brand, but it had dha in it.

  • I take "my prenatal" from Highland with DHA and ginger.

My Dr recommended this and I got at my health store.  I asked the people there and they agreed it was good natural brand.

    Good luck!

  • I have Prenate DHA that I like a lot.

  • I was taking Natelle One and I really liked it. The pill was a little big I thought but it's a softgel and it wasn't bad going down.
