Parenting after a Loss

I think I might quit BF. Mixed emotions.

For lots of reasons I think it is time. I am feeling guilty and selfish for wanting to quit. But only sometimes. Pumping is becoming pretty inconvenient while I'm working. I still go twice a day most days but I'm only getting 3 oz total each time, if I'm lucky. This is enough for DD to have one bottle. She STTN most nights now so she usually only nurses once in the morning. That's two BM feedings a day. The rest is formula. She started cereal last week. I'm starting to think about trying to get AF to regulate a bit and would like to really diet to attempt to lose these last 10 lbs so we can TTC again. Am I terrible and selfish? Is she missing out on a million more benefits if I quit now??

  • You need to do what is right for you and your family. You've given your LO the best for as long as you've been able to. If you feel it's time to quit then you should. I am a firm believer that a happy mommy=happy baby!

    Much Love~

  • Don't feel guilty!  You have to do what's right for you.  You deserve serious props for keeping it up after going back to work!  Especially if you want to start TTC again, it would be good to get your cycle regulated to help move that along.  Plus, I know this is controversial and many doctors say many different things, but my OB told me that the baby most benefits from BFing during the first 6 weeks.  I'm not saying there aren't benefits after, but at least you've more than jumped that initial hurdle!  You are not terrible and not selfish - formula is a perfectly acceptable form of feeding.

  • I think you have to do what's best for you Jen. And if that means not BFing anymore then that's okay. It sounds like it's stressing you and that's not good. There are a ton of factors that go into it, not just the milk and baby stuff. Do what's best for you and that's what'll be best for Kennedy!

  • I look up to you for making it that long! I am feeling the same way now. I am really trying to make it to 3 months though. I think it reaches a point where you are just feeding your baby stress, not BM if you aren't happy. I think you should do what is best for you and your sweet girl. Like they say happy momma = happy baby.

I totally agree.  If it's not working for you anymore and causing you too much stress, then maybe you'll be happier if you quit.  You've done amazing making it this far.

  • Jen, you have done such an awesome job and you should be so proud!  It is so tough to work and pump, and you really have given LO the best thing possible.  Congrats on making it this far!
