What do you think of this name for a girl

Charlie (insert really girly middle name that I haven't thought of yet here).

I love the name Charlie for a girl (not Charlotte) but my husband is less than convinced. He thinks she will get made fun of.

So what do you girls think?

Re: What do you think of this name for a girl

  • I think it's a cute nn for Charlotte, but I don't really care for it as the given name for a little girl.  I hear Charlie and I think boy.

  • Charlie is a boys name, and I only really care for it as nn for Charlotte.

  • I think it is an ok nickname, but not a given name for a girl.

The full name doesn't have to be Charlotte ? you could do Charlize, Charlene, Carlotta, Carla, Charissa, etc.

  • I absolutely hate the name Charlie for a girl, sorry! I don't use the word 'hate' much on this board, but I just really can't stand it.

I love the name Charlotte though!

I like the nickname, but definitely not as a full first name for a boy or girl. She will receive mail addressed to Mr. Charlie Lastname throughout her whole life. Having a feminine middle name won't make up for it because most people don't ever use middle names.

  • I know this name is popular right now, especially as a nickname for Charlotte, but yuck. It's a boys' name. Why do you want to do that to your little girl? For the record, I like the name Charlie, I even like it as a nickname for a little girl, but I don't agree with giving girls boys' names for the sake of it. At least make it a nickname so she has the option of appearing to be female on paper.
  • I like it. I know a girl with this name. She spells it Charlea though. I prefer Charlea to Charlie.
  • If you're set on Charlie, I would use it as a nn for Charlotte so your child could have the option of the more feminine name if boys names for girls go out of style and she wants a more classic option.

  • Charlotte with the nn Charlie is great.  But just to name a child a nn and a boys name at that is not a good idea.

  • I hate it as a given name for a girl.  Just awful.  Love it as a nickname for Charlotte or some other legit girl name.

Just had to say I LOVE Charlize! Absolutely LOVE. Wouldn't even use a nickname for it, but I do like Charlie as a nickname for a girl. Hate it as a full name.

I knew a British girl who was called Charley, but pronounced more like 'shar-lee.' I thought it was pretty and definitely more feminine than 'char-lee.' Maybe you could do that?

  • It is our #1 boys name...so no, I wouldn't use it for a girl.
