More Biting

Sorry I am a post hog this afternoon.

Evie has been bit 3 more times since my last biting post.  I won't say anything to the parents of the child biting her as it's not my place since I shouldn't even know who is doing it.

My question is, how do I get past feeling so helpless in the situation.  Today's bite is by far the worst as it broke the skin and immediately turned into a huge purple welt on her shoulder. I can see the outline of every one of his 10 teeth.  She got so upset this time they couldn't calm her down and had to call me to come to the room.

I'm at a loss.  She's now not the only child that's being bit either.  Scott thought that maybe we both go in and talk to the director and request that they have a conference with the biters parents just so its addressed more than a note slipped in the kids mailbox (i only check mine once a month) notifying the parent of the bite.

Help me!

Re: More Biting

  • At this point I think you should speak to the director and express your concerns.  Sometimes there are children that just continue to be problem biters.  When my grandma had her daycare she had to have one child find a new place because nothing they did worked.  I think it's time for a sit-down and a solution seeking meeting.  It's getting a little extreme.

I would raise all kinds of cain at this point.  You have been patient enough.
  • I think the daycare definitely needs to have a conference with the biter's parents.  What is their policy on biting?  Just the note?  No follow up or more severe consequences for repeat behavior?  That seems strange, ya know?
  • Once or twice is forgivable, but if it's getting that bad that's not fair to any of those kids.
