Ok...I need help. Liam is almost 4 months old, has no teeth but shows all the signs of teething. The other day on his upper gums I found one white bump. At first I thought maybe a tooth broke through but it is on the side where one of his canines would prob be and it looks almost like a pimple...what could it be?
Re: white spot on gums
Taken from Colgate:
- Epstein's pearls ? These small, white, pearl-like
spots appear on the roof of the mouth. These bumps are harmless and tend
to disappear within a few weeks.
- Bohn's nodules
? These small, whitish bumps or cysts look like Epstein's pearls, but
they develop on the sides of the gum ridge rather than the roof of the
mouth.
DS had an Epstein pearl on his upper gums that we thought was a tooth until the pedi told us otherwise. From your description is sounds like a salivary cyst (epstein pearls.) DS had one on his gum too. They just come and go at the teething age, aren't painful, and there's nothing you can/should do about them. Just let them be. Of course, if it seems like LO is in pain then call. (Thats what my pedi told me pretty much word for word when I called about DS' gums!)
