How do I know if my breast is "empty"?

LO falls asleep on the breast every time, sometimes faster than other times.  When this happens, I'll mess with him so he'll wake up or continue to suck/swallow.  Once it no longer works, I change his diaper and start him on the other breast.  But how do I know he has "emptied" the other one?  I don't want him missing out on the hindmilk...

  • You are never really empty - baby will be able to get milk.  Sometimes they may not nurse very long or at all on the 2nd breast - start on that one the next time. It's important to get that active nursing on both breasts.
