Has anybody elected to do this or thinking about it? I checked in with ViaCord....assumed it would be expensive, but still received sticker shock when I saw the total!
Anybody have any opinions on this? Or recommendations on other companies?
We had thought about it. But could not justify the cost, we did ask that our cord blood be put in a public bank. DH mom as MS & Cord Blood has been shown to help with them but there is a very slim chance that it is passed from Male to male but when we have a girl we might do it then because there will be better results out & MS hits more females then it dose males. Also there is still a lot of mixed reviews about if banking it could really help.
My husband and I really thought about doing it as well.. but decided against it. He says its basically a scam. It's a good business... Trying to make parents feel somewhat guilty if they don't do it.. :-( The amount of diseases that it cures are very small and the chances of them getting them are so slim. We decided not to do it, and decided that a better alternative would be to donate the cord so they can do stem cell research on it, but the hospital that i gave birth at didn't do it.. So maybe check into that.. Just an idea!
