Just want to know if I am living in a bubble as I am thinking about a name for my LO (Due in December)...Over the last few years I've felt that many friends and acquaintances have picked names that seem a little "out there" at the time?Monty being the one I immediately think of?but names like Asher, Seu, and Esme also made me double-take.
Now that I am expecting, thinking about names a lot, and searching for one, these names seem completely normal! Has anyone had this experience?
And my present predicament: I really like the name Penelope. Am I now a victim of the baby name bubble?
Re: Baby name bubble...
I think Penelope is adorable, and Esme too.
I actually really like Esme. Makes me think of the JD Salinger story "For Esme, with Love and Squalor," so I don't think it's particularly out there.
I also like Penelope.

It actually happened with one of the names you mentioned above - Penelope. I thought it was too out there to use, and it was one of my guilty pleasure names...something I'd use for a character in a children's book. But as I explored more of the naming world, I found others out there who liked it too, and even some who used it. Made me feel more at home with my naming nerdiness.
