Breastfeeding

Is it too late to start again?

I was very successful at bfing the first 3 months but when I went back to work I could only pump once a day and my supply dipped big time.  I continued to feed in the evenings until he hit 4 months and then I kind of just gave up.  I know if I put some effort in I could have gotten my supply back up.  I have feed a couple times in the last week or two but not many.  Is it too late to turn back?  I am still leaking a little, but I never get full.  What can I do, if anything, to start back up again?  TIA!

Re: Is it too late to start again?

  • You definitely can! If you google "relactating" you should get a bunch ideas. You aren't truely "re" lactating, but close enough that those suggestions should help.

    Here's what I would do:

    - latch LO on whenever you can

    - pump every couple hours for (or whenever you can) 15-20 minutes, even if nothing is coming out

These first two are to create "demand" which your boobs will then "supply"

I'd also eat oatmeal daily for breakfast, consider taking fenugreek or mothers milk tea, and maybe make some lactation cookies if you're in the mood.
