Hello from 1st tri. I can't wait to get to the point where i can move over to this board. Anyway, my question is about the size of my bump. I know everyone is going to be different, some much different than others. But... there's gotta be some sort of average out there when it comes to how much we show at 15 weeks. I'm going to be involved with several weddings starting at 14 w to 18 w. I have already purchased 3 dresses for each wedding, but I'm guessing I wont fit into any of them as they are slim fitting. Am I going to be big enough to fit into a maternity dress by then? If so, I'll start returning the skinny dresses and shopping for maternity dresses. Thanks for the help!
Re: size question for you 2nd tri ladies...
Sorry, I think everyone is different, some women at my stage are barely showing a little and me, I've started showing early and I'm big.
Maybe ask the ladies at Motherhood Maternity or A Pea in The Pod?
It's a GIRL!
I am 14 weeks now with my first, and I have a small frame- I am definitely not in maternity clothes yet. The bump is just starting out for me so I am okay in most of my clothes, some are just a tad tighter..
It may get tricker as you get closer to 18 weeks rather than 14, though.
Sadly, there is no average. It depends entirely on your body shape, the position of your uterus, how much bloating you will have...
You will be bigger, but you will probably not have a defined baby bump. If you have empire waisted dresses, that flow away from your body, that will probably work the best. An actual maternity dress will be way too big on you.
Your other option is to wear spanx/corset to flatten your belly. It is safe for baby, but not very comfortable for you. (Several of my brides and their wedding party members have done this. - I am a wedding photographer.)

There is no average. Sorry. You'll just have to wait and see how you are coming along.
FWIW, I was thin pre-pregnancy and did not start showing until after 20 weeks.
sounds good... thanks girls! sounds like I'll be doing some last minute shopping. I'm by no means overweight, but I'm also no skinny girl. I've got a feeling I'll be showing something by then. My boobs are already too big for my bras. Pants are still fine, and the bloating isn't too bad. I'm just looking twoards the future to keep my mind of the worry i have now about getting to that point.
thanks again!
Will the brides let you wear a different dress? I think it would be a little (OK, a LOT) selfish to ask IMO.
That aside, I am in a wedding next week. If the dress was form fitting, it would not work.
I am 20 weeks and although I wear looser or maternity shirts, I'm still in most of my regular pants, some with the help of the BeBand. A maternity dress would swallow me whole right now.
There is no "standard" for sizes of bumps. Some ladies are several weeks behind me and are 2x the size and some are 6 months and the same size as me. It just depends on your own body build.
(I only skimmed the replies, sorry if this is already posted)
I'd say your best best is to do something with an empire waste that way if you are showing if gives you room for your belly no matter how big you are. I definitely couldn't fit into a "skinny" dress after 14 weeks. Everyone is different though!
Me at 5 weeks and 15 weeks:
I could still fit in all my clothes except for my tightest pants, but they just didn't look as cute. I definitely looked softer but not significantly bigger. Also, you're still mostly squish at that point, so it's compressible. Beware the boob growth, though.
i'm not a bridesmaid in any of them, my DH is. I'm just going. I would NEVER ask to change the dress if I was a bridesmaid... but that being said. If the dress won't fit, that bride had better come up with a plan B!
I went to a wedding this past weekend and wore a maternity dress. But, I was in maternity bottoms at week 10. I bought one fancy maternity dress that I hope will tide me over for every dressy event during this PG. That said, my MIL bought me two non-maternity jersey-material dresses and they fit great with room to grow (and they were cheap--yay Ross!)

Ah! OK then! Well, I would either wait until closer (although that can be stressful) or get a dress that is forgiving, Empire cut would work well. Good luck!!!
