Wood floors?

What do you do to keep LO safe on them?

Re: Wood floors?

  • I have a foam mat on the floor in his room. But now that he is crawling he is all over the place.

I was about to post something similar.

Can anyone with dogs tell me what they did once their little ones started crawling on the floor. I have a shepherd and the floor is COVERED in hair, no matter how much I sweep. Any suggestions?

  • My mom has a roomba, I'm hoping this will work. Were going to have a cat, a golden lab/retv. & a Pomeranian all under 1 roof.I'm gonna go grab one if those foam mats & hopefully the novelty will keep her contained for a little while. Do you use any baby gates, or did you for Ian?

  • Our current plan is to just try and sweep/vacuum twice a week for the dog hair for our two labs once LO arrives.  We'll see how well that works. Wink  That's what a friend of mine did because she had a great dane and a set of twins.  Fortunately for us we're mostly carpet (a win but a losing situation with dog hair) and only the foyer/breakfast nook/kitchen area is laminate for the main floor of our house.  Upstairs is carpet except for the bathrooms.

With Ian we lived in MX while he was learning how to crawl, we had tile throughout the house. I don't remember him really hurting himself much. We didn't have any gates. I am thinking about putting a gate in the hallway so the dogs can't go into the bedrooms, leaving less mess to clean up in that area.

I saw the cutest cupcake foam mat tiles at ross the other day for 12 bucks. It made me want a girl SOOO Bad!

    Where?  That sounds soo cute?

  • I'm going through this right now, Krissie.  For her room, I bought a rug from Target, but she usually chooses to play anywhere but on the rug - go figure!

For downstairs we have yet to really buy rugs.  I bought one from IKEA that's in the rooom with most of her toys.  I still need to buy more though.  And with 2 cats, the hair has been a constant battle.

I was at a playgroup a couple of weeks ago and they had an entire room (it probably was intended to be a dining room) set up as a play room.  They even had it gated off.  The floor was covered with the gray foam tiles.  It was kind of a tucked away area so it worked well.  Seems like the rest of her rooms were either carpeted or she had large area rugs on them.

WHAT?!? and you did not immediately share this info with me?

As for the floors, we got foam mats.

As for the dog hair, we sweep daily. Vacuum as often as is feasible. during shedding seasons we kept Penny downstairs and play more upstairs and vacuum often.

Also, I have a little trick.  Go get puffy fabric paint and paint dots on the bottom of their socks.  Once it dries the puffy paint gives them traction so they slip less on the hardwood.

I'm sorry ladies I can't even find a pic of the floor tiles, they were really cute.
