Grrrr! Car Trouble!

You may remember back in January I totaled my car.  We essentially "bought" back our Jetta from my sister because it was too expensive for her to fix.  We ended up footing the bill for over $1000 in brakes and other small repairs. And this was in addition to a couple hundred dollars my sister had already put into it at the beginning of the year.

This morning the Jetta overheated.  It's going to cost us upwards of $1200 to fix this mess.  I'm so sick of this stupid car costing so much money!  I think we're going to try to sell it and get a more affordable used Ford or something.  What we've paid to fix the thing is equal to about a $200 a month car payment!  I hate cars!

  • That is sooo frustrating- honestly i have not heard one good thing about jettas - especially when it comes to repairs and such.

some brand cars are just more expensive to fix- mine being one of them ~ and it is such a pain.

definitely try and do some research on car models before buying. Not trying to sway your decision but just today a friend of mine was complaining on facebook about his Ford- he said Ford stood for "Fixed Or Repaired Daily". and i had to chuckle not that i have ever driven a ford to compare it to.

  • Agreed about researching.  Honestly, we've had the best luck with Saturns.  DH is not in favor of selling the Jetta.  At this point he believes "nothing else can go wrong"....famous last words right?

  • Oh i remember talking about this before- DH is on his third Saturn. He swears by them. He has a Vue now- he sooo doesn't want to trade it in and is really bummed that the Saturn brand is going away. We have always had great luck with the Saturns.

lol @ nothing else can go wrong. That is like saying- i  am going to shove my fingers in an electrical outlet because i think the power is turned off. dangerous business for sure.

Fords have come a long way since that phrase was first coined (many years ago).  The cars put out by Ford in the past few years are quite good as far as quality and reliability go.

Hyundai is another brand that gives you a lot of car for the money and has good reliability.

I wouldn't touch a VW or a Kia with a ten foot pole.

  • I hate cars too!  I didn't own one for ten years, ten blissful years free of all the hassle cars bring.

How about this for car trouble?  I stupidly knocked off the side mirror on the side of our garage.  I got it repaired for $350 and the next day I was rear-ended while sitting at a light.  A truck driver had fallen asleep at the wheel and hit us going 40+ miles an hour.  What a nightmare -- so lucky we didn't get hurt.  But of course, the car was totaled, the $350 was lost, and we didn't get back near what we'd paid for it already.  We're trying to get "pain and suffering" compensation, but I hate that whole process.

That said, we had a 6 year old Camry, and it ran perfectly for the year we had it, and it also really protected us in the crash.  We just bought another one.  I highly recommend them!

like i said- i have nothing to compare Fords too- i just thought the term was funny and rather timely to English's post.
