Seriously. I wish I could make it through a Dr's appointment without bursting into tears.
Highlights:
- Last loss isn't what concerns her, it's my first loss that does.
- High risk Dr is positive that I do have PCOS.
- Wants me to do vitamin D supplements (never heard of this one!)
- Continue pre-natal vitamins
- If/When I manage to get KTFU next time, they'll do a dating ultrasound asap, an u/s at 8 weeks, u/s at 12 weeks, u/s at 18 weeks, and every 2-3 weeks from there on in. This is to monitor for weakening cervix, any sort of infections etc.
I also got the lecture - " A lot of women go through miscarriage. In fact I had a patient this morning who had a loss at 28 weeks, and now has 2 healthy babies (my thought: Woopie fvcking do for her). Just because you've had bad luck so far doesn't mean you're never going to have a baby (my thought: Says Dr. "I have a 10 month old child at home")"
So.. I guess the take-away is this. A) I actually got someone to tell me straight up that yes, I have PCOS and
I'm the statistic.
Re: Back from High Risk Pre-conception appt
Hugs, honey.
It sounds like you are getting real answers, and that's good. I just wish you didn't have to go through this at all.

(((hugs)))
i guess docs do try to stay positive and i got the same speech. i'm sorry.
(((hugs)))
I'm glad you are getting answers but sorry about the lecture. That lecture never makes anyone feel any better.
That really sucks but I agree that the main thing is that you have answers now and you can deal with it.
I do hate the "if it worked for so and so it can work for you" comments too. I can't tell you how many times people have told me about this one or that one who had a baby in their 40's so it's "just a matter of time" for me too. Lately I have been responding with "Oh, really? What was her AMH level?"
No matter what though, I'm glad you are armed with information now so that you can press on. (((BIG HUGS)))

Thanks, ladies.
I guess effective right now, I'm going to have to drastically change my diet. *sniff, sniff* By carbs. I bet Colinda will be pleased to hear this.
Well yay for the monitoring! And boo for the lecture. And FWIW, I am doing low carb myself (I have not been diagnosed as PCOS but I figure it can't hurt, as I seem to have some of the symptoms anyway). I have been struggling with it...when the cravings hit, I will sometimes think to myself "which do you want more - an Oreo or a baby?" And honestly sometimes the answer is an Oreo...and especially if it's an Oreo cakester.
Good luck, and keep us posted on your low-carb progress!
Oh man. I'm sorry. I am glad that you got some answers. Puts you one step closer.
I too got a comment this morning during my follicle search when I mentioned my mc last year. ..."well at least you got pregnant".
Ha! Yeah, like I haven't heard that before.
I'm so glad she was straight up with you.
But I'm sorry that she was a bit patronizing with the statistics stuff.
I hope she can give you lots of help!
I hate those craps statistics, but I guess they have to tell us something.
It sounds like you have a good plan, which is a step in the right direction. I have to take vitamin D supplements too, it's just that lack of sun we get.
I hope it all works out for you!
Missed m/c 11.09 | Missed m/c 3.10 | We miss you & love you so.

My thoughts on this:
- I'm so glad you went to both of these appointments.

- PCOS. Sucks, but makes so much sense. I would like to see how your current RE responds to this, because I wonder if there's anything better than Clomid in that case.
- Vitamin D - My GP is a huge fan. Supposedly a significant majority of the population has a Vitamin D deficiency.
- All the extra monitoring is wonderful news. There have been studies proving a very significant link between TLC in early pregnancy and success.
- You're in good company as far as being a statistic. And look how many fellow statistics are over on PgAL right now.

Hey love... sorry for all the fun you've had this morning.
My RE put me on Vit. D, too. Good news is I found it in gummy form so my three vit. D and one B12 "meds" are basically candy. Hope you can find the same.
I'm sorry Carrie, I really hate that lecture. It sounds like your getting some answers and a plan though. I looked up Vit. D in my PCOS workbook and here is what it says:
Did you know that vitamin D is not only a vitamin but also a hormone? Vitamin D receptors have been identified in almost every tissue and cell in the human body. It plays a part if follicle egg maturation and development as well as glucose regulation, notably in decreasing insulin resistance. Studies have shown that the majority of individuals in the United States are deficient in vitamin D. Low levels of vitamin D have been found in individuals with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Few foods other than milk, eggs, liver, cereals with vitamin D added and fatty fish contain vitamin D. Skin exposure to sunlight provides as much as 80% to 90% of the body's vitamin D. However, overweight individuals have a greater chance of being deficient because vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin stored in high amounts of fatty tissue. All women with PCOS should take at least 1,000 IU of vitamin D daily and have your doctor check your vitamin D levels.
Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle!

((hugs)) glad you have a plan, but sorry you got the lecture. I hate when dr's give that lecture, I got that at my first appt after losing the twins my dr told me she had a patient who had a similiar loss and she now has a healthy baby. Like that was suppose to make me feel better.

Carrie - sorry I missed your post earlier- but wanted to chime in and tell you I'm glad there were some answers and ideas for you, but your doc can keep the statistic lecture to her/himself and I'm sorry you had to sit through that part.
