How old was dc when you moved them to a big kid bed?

Today at dd's 2 yr check up the doctor said to get her into a bed b/c of the risk of her trying to climb out and falling on her head.  I had no intention of moving her out until she started attempting to climb out.  We moved ds out at 2, but only b/c we wanted the crib for dd.  That was when he stopped napping for good...at 2.  I don't want that to happen with dd.

  • 2.5

He never tried climbing out of his crib before we went on a two week holiday where he slept in a twin bed.  When we got home, the first night in his crib he climbed out.  So much for the crib.

promised myself I'd retire when I turned gold, and yet here I am
  • 3 years and 1 month? We tried at 2y,10m and she was up and down 10x/night for like 2 weeks. Finally DH and I couldn't stand it anymore (we both WOHM, we need our sleep!) and put her back in the crib. When we tried again at 3y,1m it was SO easy!

  • DD was moved at 19months.  We moved to a new house and DS was going to need the crib.  She slept better once she was free.

DS was 2 in March.  I'm not un-caging him until I absolutely have to.

  • All my girls were about 3 when we moved them.  They never tried to climb out.

  • DD is 3.5 and is still in her crib nexts month her big girl bed will be here for her one day when she gets out of school
  • 2.5. DD only climbed out once, when her rocking chair was next to the crib. Once we moved it, she never tried again. We only moved her to a big kid bed because we needed the crib for DD#2.

  • Crib to toddler bed: 2 yrs 10 months

Toddler bed to twin bed: 3 yrs 10 months

My philosophy is don't mess with what's working.  If your kid is sleeping in and staying in a crib, leave her be.

  • At 2.5 we moved him into a double bed, he had never tried to climb out, but we wanted the crib for #2. Went great.  We put a bed rail and repeated he was not allowed to get off the bed without us, and until recently (at 3.5) he never got off of it.
  • Ds: Pretty much from birth. He slept with us until about 3 y/o and then went straight into his own regular bed.

Dd: Slept with us for 8-10 months, then slept in PNP until about 18ish months. She's been in a toddler bed since then.

  • We moved DS1 on his 2nd birthday. He had never tried to climb out, but we needed the crib for DS2. We never had a problem with napping, and he's just now dropping his nap at 4 y/o. We moved DS2 about a month after his 2nd birthday. He was a climber and we worried he would land on his head. Also no nap problems with him, still takes a 2 hour nap in his bed daily.

  • 18 months with DD #1 (needed the crib for #2) an d 17 month with DD #2 becasue she hated the crib and never slept in it well.  That said, I know a ton of people who have their kids in the crib into 3 years or so.  Unless your child has started to climb out, there really is no reason to move them unless you want to, they are getting too big for it.  I had my kids on twin mattresses on the floor when we moved them and used a bed rail as well.

  • We're an exception I guess.  DS1 was moved at 15 months and DS2 was moved at 18 months.  DS1 will be 4 in December and still takes 3 hour naps in the afternoon.  And DS2 takes a nap during that same time.  Has worked well for us.

  • forgot to say that they both moved to twin beds.  skipped the toddler beds.  right now they share a room and they have a loft bed set up.  the older one sleeps on top and the younger on the bottom.
